Rihanna and Big Bang Theory star give Plano red carpet action for Home premiere
Rihanna fans who'd like to see her up close (sort of) should head to Plano on March 17, when the pop superstar walks the red carpet, along with Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons, for a premiere of Home, the new animated film from DreamWorks Animation.
The red carpet/premiere, which takes place at the Cinemark West Theater, was a prize won by Plano resident Cheryl Jackson, who participated in a contest by Good Morning America to bring the film to her hometown. Her win was announced on GMA on March 13.
Jackson was a judge's favorite because of the charitable endeavor, Minnie's Food Pantry, which she launched to feed people who are down and out; DreamWorks Animation also donated food to feed 25,000 people.
The screening is a private event, which means no tickets are for sale. However, KISS 106.1 FM is running a contest through March 16 to win tickets; you can enter here.
Jackson is also hosting a "Minnie's Tickets" giveaway. Email Zoya@minniesfoodpantry.org with your name and the name of your guest by 8 am on March 16, and she'll do a random drawing; winners will receive a confirmation email by noon.
This Cinemark is no stranger to high-profile premieres. It's the same one that hosted the January 14 red carpet benefit screening of American Sniper, with an appearance by actor Bradley Cooper. But a spokeswoman for the Cinemark said that it is merely the location of the Home screening, and they are not selling tickets.
"Nor do we have any authority over it other than that it's being held at our theater," she says. "If people want to stand outside, they will probably get to see her. We will have areas cordoned off, where you can see some of the characters from the movie and get photos."
The red carpet will roll out at 4 pm, and the event promises to be well-attended and well-documented: ABC will be there to film it with Rihanna reporting, for airing on GMA on March 18.
