    Sissy's derby drinking party and more must-attend Dallas food events

    Brace yourself, Dallas. This Week in Gluttony is a doozy. The weather gods are smiling down upon us, and there is plenty of eating and drinking to be done.

    For starters, Sissy's is hosting its third annual Jockeys & Juleps party, and Kitchen LTO needs your vote for version 3.0 at Trinity Groves. Plus, Tastemaker Best Chef nominee Dean Fearing is signing copies of his new cookbook at Barnes & Noble.

    But enough chatter. Let's get this food event roundup started.

    Tuesday, April 29

    Domaine Serene Winery Dinner at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek
    Enjoy a five-course menu crafted by chef Bruno Davaillon paired with selections from Domaine Serene Winery. Starters include mini truffles, grilled cheese sandwiches and beef tartare crostini, followed by pea ravioli with morel ragout, veal cheek with celeriac and rhubarb reduction, chicken with spring casserole, venison loin with red cabbage compote, and an artisanal cheese course.     The History of Crown Royal and the Craft of Blending Dinner at Grace
    Grace is hosting a five-course Crown Royal whiskey dinner, with a history lesson on the side. Dishes prepared by chef Blaine Staniford include Peking duck, dry-aged strip and cola-braised pork cheek. The event starts at 6:30 pm; seats are $89 a person plus tax and tip.     Kibble and Cocktails at 3015 Trinity Groves
    At this dog-friendly event, partake in food from all your favorite Trinity Groves restaurants and support the Voice of Justice program at DFW Rescue Me. The program educates children on how to take care of animals in order to prevent future abuse. The event also features music, live auction and raffle. Tickets are $100 a person; you can reserve your spot by calling 214-939-3015 or order online.

    Dean Fearing Cookbook Signing at Barnes & Noble
    Celebrity chef Dean Fearing discusses and signs The Texas Food Bible: From Legendary Dishes to New Classics at Barnes & Nobles on Northwest Highway. Beginning at 9 am, present your Barnes & Noble receipt for the book, and receive a wristband to save your place in line. Those without a Barnes & Noble receipt may get their wristbands beginning at 5 pm.

    Wednesday, April 30

    Central Texas Beer Dinner at Libertine Bar
    Libertine Bar celebrates Central Texas brews with five courses paired with perfect beers. Dishes include apple pie with chilled apple soup, salted caramel gelato and sharp cheddar flatbread; venison blood sausage and bourbon-poached pear with vanilla-chile vinaigrette; banana 3 ways (roasted, smashed and crispy with deep dark chocolate); Texas sturgeon with collard greens, crispy skin and quail egg; and the Kitchen Sink with chocolate, citrus, cream, avocado and cheese.     Best Cellars Dinner at Hotel ZaZa
    Some of the top wine collectors come together to highlight and share wine from their personal cellars. The evening features a gourmet four-course meal prepared by chefs Dan Landsberg (Dragonfly), Bradford Hodgkins (FT33), Cody Sharp (Casa Rubia) and Lance Smith (Smoke). Proceeds from the dinner benefit the T.J. Martell Foundation, whose mission is to fund the combined team of lung cancer experts at UT Southwestern and MD Anderson Cancer Center.     Peter Michael Winery Dinner at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek
    Chef Bruno Davaillon brings the goods to this five-course dinner and reception featuring selections from Peter Michael Winery. Menu highlights include peeky toe crab with crispy quinoa; Chatham cod with spring blanquette casserole; duck breast with cherry marmalade, parsnip and ramps; and lamb loin with smoked potato and yogurt.     Third Annual Jockeys & Juleps Derby Watching Party at Sissy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar
    Come dressed in your best derby day attire and indulge in derby day specials from 11 am to 2 pm. Sissy's mint julep, grapefruit julep, Kentucky punch and Presbyterian bourbon press are $8. The Red Carpet Special and Kentucky Derby play on the big screens behind the bar from 3 to 6 pm, and a prize of $200 is awarded to the best derby outfit in the house.     Sunday, May 4

    Kitchen LTO 3.0 Voting Party at Trinity Groves
    Head to Kitchen LTO at Trinity Groves from 5-8 pm as it debuts the chef and artist finalists for its third restaurant rotation. Voting starts at the event and continues through May 10 at 6 pm via Kitchen LTO’s website. Chef finalists include Rosanne "Roe" Dileo from Libertine Bar; Fitzgerald Dodd from Amberjax Fish Market & Grille; Brooke Eggers from Village Modern Foods in Santa Barbara, California; Daniel Tarasevich from Second Floor Bistro; and Scott Townend of Scott Townend Catering. Current chef Eric Shelton ends his tenure on May 31; the restaurant reopens on June 3 with the new concept. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com.

    Home Brewing Classes at Weekend Coffee
    Learn how to make the perfect cup of joe at Weekend Coffee's free monthly home brew classes. Learn the ins and outs of various brew methods, including how to use a French press, V60, Chemex and all of those other fancy things that intimidate you.     Raw Foods Expert Matt Monarch at Richardson Civic Center
    Matt Monarch, owner of Raw Food World and host of the TV show by the same name, talks about top super foods and how they help combat diseases and other health conditions and how the raw food path can be a doorway into the spiritual. Admission is free, and all attendees receive a $10 gift card for Monarch’s online store. The event starts at 6:30 pm.

    Where to eat in Dallas right now: 8 cool new restaurants for June 2026

    Summer's almost here, and you can feel it in the June 2026 edition of Where to Eat, CultureMap's monthly roundup of new and appealing restaurants to check out: Three of the eight places on this list specialize in frozen treats, and all are well worth a visit. They include a buzzy chain from Portland, an over-the-top brand from Florida, and the debut a new snow cone concept from a local celebrity chef.

    Here's where to eat in Dallas for June 2026.

    Alania Mediterranean Grill
    Family-run Turkish restaurant landed the hallowed spot in East Dallas that was formerly home to Mai’s Vietnamese, kitty corner to foodie temple Jimmy's Food Store. Owners Kenan and Melike Turan and their son Kaan Elagoz have restaurant experience including their previous restaurant Istanbul Palace, which closed during the pandemic. Alania's menu includes Mediterranean staples like hummus and falafel, but also novelties like Anotalian Ezme a veggie dish with tomato, pepper, and walnuts with pomegranate molassess. Mains include meat skewers, lamb chops, and pizza — both Turkish-style flatbread pide as well as Neapolitan-style.

    Dumpling Queen
    Family-owned spot for dumplings has debuted in Flower Mound, where it's serving steamed dumplings, hand-pulled noodles, and other family recipes from Sichuan, China. They have dumplings in a dozen varieties, including a four-color rainbow dumpling sampler with beef, chicken, seafood, and veggie. One of their signature items, not commonly found around DFW, are their sheng jian bao pan-fried buns, often consumed for breakfast, featuring with a crispy, golden-brown bottom and soft, fluffy top — like a hybrid of dumplings and bao.

    Ilio’s Greek & Lebanese Restaurant
    Mediterranean restaurant in McKinney features Middle Eastern favorites like gyros, shawarma, kebabs, hummus, falafel, and pita wraps, filtered through the prism of Greek and Lebanese cuisines and spices. They're big on kebabs in choice of chicken, beef, shrimp, and kafta, like a fancy Lebanese hamburger. There are gyro plates, falafel, lentil soup, and pita wraps, with pita that's a little softer and less doughy than usual. Lastly, there's a fusion dish that's very Texas: a "Greek quesadilla" with your choice of grilled meat stacked between pita bread.

    Joy Cafe
    Breakfast and lunch cafe in Sunnyvale is a comeback story for owner Andrea Hermosillo, who previously owned Chimalma Taco Bar Co. in downtown Dallas. Hermosillo has created a sweet oasis of joy in Sunnyvale as well as a destination for good food, including bread and tortillas made in-house, and coffee beans roasted at the front of the cafe. The menu features steak & eggs, burgers, and avocado toast alongside Mexican staples such as chilaquiles, tortilla soup, and tres leches. There are also global influences with a Mexican twist, such as shakshuka featuring house-made chorizo, as well as croque madame and hummus.

    Oak and Stone
    New restaurant in McKinney specializing in pizza and beer is part of a chain founded in Sarasota, Florida in 2016. Their shtick is a self-serve wall with taps for beer and wine, which are not uncommon, but also for bourbon and cocktails. Above each tap is a display of info such as tasting notes and alcohol by volume (ABV) content, and their beer selection spotlights mostly DFW labels such as Lakewood Brewing, Martin House, and Rollertown Beerworks. The menu includes a dozen pizza varieties ranging from pepperoni to one topped with buffalo chicken, blue cheese, and ranch; plus spinach dip, wings, and Philly cheesesteak rolls. A second location is coming to Addison soon.

    Salt & Straw
    Buzzy artisan ice cream chain from Oregon opened its first location in Texas in Dallas, on equally buzzy Henderson Avenue, next to a location of also-buzzy bagel chain PopUp Bagels. What started as a pushcart in 2011 has grown to 58 locations in California, the East Coast, and Texas. They're famous for their hyper-creative, unexpected flavors including a never-ending rotation of monthly specials, and for their generous sampling policy. June's flavors have a strong Asian theme including Cheesecake with Salted Yuzu Curd, Hong Kong Milk Tea with Toasted White Chocolate, Chocolate Caramel Smoked Budino, Sweet Potato Buckwheat Crumble, and Caramelized Plantain with Spicy Pecan Crumble which is a vegan flavor.

    Sloan's Ice Cream
    Small Florida-based chain of over-the-top ice cream shops has opened a location in Plano — its first in Texas — where it's scooping fun flavors in a space drenched in Instagrammable candy-colored hues including eye-catching chandeliers in hues of pink, magenta, aqua, and neon green.. Ice cream is the star, with foodie-level flavors such as Black & White Malt malted milkshake with malt balls; carrot cake ice cream with chunks of carrot cake, cream cheese frosting, and walnuts; and coffee ice cream with Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts. Beyond ice cream, they have chocolates, cookies, brownies, candied apples, bulk candy, plus gifts and fluffy toys.

    Syrup + Sno
    New dessert shop from Dallas celebrity chef Tiffany Derry just opened at EpicCentral in Grand Prairie, where it's doing a chef spin on a snow cone stand, with flavors such as Banana Fosters with caramelized banana, cinnamon, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla sno; Mangonada with mango, Tajín, and chamoy candy; and Halo Halo with ube, coconut, strawberries, red bean, mochi, and soft serve. In addition to shaved ice, Syrup + Sno serves macaron ice cream sandwiches, cookies, and soft serve. The shop, which is open Thursdays-Sundays, joins two other Derry restaurants at the complex: Radici and The Landing which is next door.
