These are the 11 best things to do in Dallas this weekend

    Alex Bentley
    May 17, 2018 | 6:00 am

It's a big-name weekend in and around Dallas, with high-profile stars making appearances all over the place. Well-known performers in hip hop, pop, rock, country, and more will be performing at no fewer than seven different events. You can also catch some of the world's best golfers, watch the royal wedding, or ride in some historic airplanes.

Below are the best ways to spend your free time this weekend. Want more options? Lucky for you, we have a much longer list of the city's best events.

    Thursday, May 17

    2018 AT&T Byron Nelson
After many years at the TPC at Las Colinas, the PGA Tour's annual stop in Dallas will debut at the Trinity Forest Golf Club in South Dallas. Among the top-notch players who will be competing in the tournament will be Dallas' own Jordan Spieth, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, 2017 champion Billy Horschel, Matt Kuchar, Marc Leishman, Adam Scott, and more. The tournament goes on through Sunday.

Top Dawg Entertainment presents The Championship Tour
If you're not in the know, the name of this event may seem uninteresting. But when you see that it's a festival-style concert involving the label’s all-star roster, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning Kendrick Lamar, SZA, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SiR, Lance Skiiiwalker, and more, it becomes a must-attend party. The concert will be at Dos Equis Pavilion.

    Friday, May 18

Elm Street Music & Tattoo Fest
The annual Elm Street Music & Tattoo Fest will feature world-renowned tattoo artists like Oliver Peck from the hit Spike TV show Ink Master alongside rock bands like Ben Nichols & Friends, Riverboat Gamblers, Lower Class Brats, The Old Firm Casuals, Days N Daze, and more. Events will take place through Sunday at Trees, Three Links, and Club Dada in Deep Ellum.

    Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival
The annual Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival boasts six performance stages showcasing more than 80 musical acts, including headliners like Kool & The Gang, Goo Goo Dolls, Spoon, Jimmy Eat World, Eve 6, Starship, and more. This year’s celebration will include the family-friendly WF! Kids, the WF! Eats, the WF! Marketplace, and Performers Row featuring strolling entertainers, buskers and acrobats. The festival goes on at Galatyn Park in Richardson through Sunday.

The Box Garden At Legacy Hall Grand Opening Celebration
Legacy Hall, the new food hall in Plano, has been open since last December, and now they're finally ready to debut The Box Garden, their outdoor beer garden and live entertainment venue. They'll celebrate the grand opening with a performance by Sarah Jaffe on Friday, performances by Sleepy Zuhoski, Madison King, Vandoliers, and Kirk Thurmond & The Millennials on Saturday, and a farmers market accompanied by music from Millennial Swing Band and the Chet Stevens Band on Sunday.

    Saturday, May 19

British Emporium presents Royal Wedding Watch Party
You can stay at home to watch the early-morning royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, or you can watch at one of the most British places in Dallas-Fort Worth, the British Emporium in Grapevine. The event will be held in the parking lot, and tea and light refreshments will be served. Guests are asked to bring their own chairs and encouraged to dress in their best wedding hat and favorite attire.

    Bishop Arts Festival
The inaugural Bishop Arts Festival is a two-day arts festival that will showcase approximately 100 painters, photographers, sculptors, metalwork, glass artists, jewelers, and more. Taking place in the Bishop Arts District on Saturday and Sunday, it will allow visitors to enjoy the neighborhood's numerous boutiques, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and art galleries.

Cavanaugh Flight Museum presents Warbirds Over Addison
Cavanaugh Flight Museum will host its biggest weekend of the year, Warbirds Over Addison. Aviation buffs will have the chance to see, touch, and even fly in many of the planes in the Cavanaugh's collection, including the P-51 Mustang, AD-5 Skyraider, FM2 Wildcat, and many more. Guests can enjoy aircraft on display plus a Naval carrier aircraft operation demonstration and Sherman Tank demo. The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Kenny Chesney in concert with Thomas Rhett, Old Dominion, and Brandon Lay
If it's late spring in Dallas-Fort Worth, then it's time once again for country superstar Kenny Chesney to make his near annual appearance at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Chesney is getting set to release a new album, Songs for the Saints, in July. He'll be joined at the home of Dallas Cowboys by Thomas Rhett, Old Dominion, and Brandon Lay.

    Dave Matthews Band in concert
Speaking of annual visits, the Dave Matthews Band has consistently played the same venue, the recently-renamed Dos Equis Pavilion, on virtually the same weekend in May every year since at least 2013. Though their days of delivering hits like "What Would You Say," "Crash Into Me," and "The Space Between" are behind them, they always score No. 1 albums, which will likely be the case when their new album, Come Tomorrow, comes out in June.

    Sunday, May 20

David Crosby & Friends in concert
A two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and co-founder of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, David Crosby will be joined at the Granada Theater by five musical friends: James Raymond on keys, Mai Agan on bass, Steve DiStanislao on drums, Jeff Pevar on guitar, and Michelle Willis on keys and vocals. Crosby will be performing music from his soon-to-be-released album, Sky Trails, alongside some of his best loved songs and greatest hits.

David Crosby and Friends will play at Granada Theater on May 20.
