7 Dallas social events every philanthropic YP should attend

    Diana Oates
    Sep 11, 2017 | 10:38 am

Oh, you thought the "grown ups" got to have all the fun in Dallas? Wrong! Turns out, young professionals know how to throw philanthropic fêtes that are just as fab as their parents' events. Here are our seven favorites to mark down on your social calendar ASAP.

Dallas Symphony Orchestra Gala After Party — September 16

This affair at Meyerson Symphony Center is the young professionals’ answer to the formal gala earlier in the evening. The whole event kicks off the Dallas Symphony Orchestra season and features a performance by legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma. After-party attendees can expect an open bar, extravagant desserts, and dancing to a DJ. This party is thrown by the Vivaldi Patron Circle; however, anyone with a ticket is welcome to enjoy the festivities.

    BubblyQ — October 5

On the young professional philanthropic scene, there are events and then there are events that involve Vodi Cook. Luckily for BubblyQ, this year's champagne-infused party has the unstoppable fundraiser serving as its chair (along with James Carroll). The event, taking place at Fearing's at the Ritz-Carlton, will have attendees sampling dishes from the best chefs in town and bidding on exciting auction items. All proceeds benefit Young Texans Against Cancer. Since its inception in 2008, YTAC has donated over $1 million in support of the fight against cancer.

CultureMap Stylemaker Awards — October 26

Consider this a personal save-the-date to our hottest party of the season. And while we aren't ready to reveal any details just yet, we can tell you that the 2017 Stylemaker Awards, presented by The Plaza, will happen at Tootsies and proceeds will benefit The Family Place's Partners Card program. Be on the lookout for details in the coming days and weeks regarding this year's nominees.

Rosé All Day — October 29

Drinking pink post Labor Day? It's kinda like wearing white, there really are no rules anymore. This inaugural Dallas event will raise money for AIRS (Alliance in Reconstructive Surgery) and will take place at Arlington Hall at Lee Park from 1-9 pm. More details coming soon.

Dallas Autumn Ball — November 3

This annual dance party welcomes young professionals dressed to impress to Hotel ZaZa for an exciting night benefiting Reading Partners. These organizers believe you shouldn't mess with a good thing, so they've once again invited the Emerald City Band to rock the party. Top shelf spirits and delicious appetizers are also big hits here. Black tie is strongly suggested, so start planing your dapper look now.

Rhapsody in Red Charity Ball — November 4

This festive dinner and dance at Union Station gives young philanthropists a chance to learn about and support Cherish Uganda — an organization that exists to restore life and create hope for children living with HIV. And although this gala is only in its second year, its success last year made it one we just couldn't plan to miss in 2017.

Dallas Millennial Gala — November 17

Also in just its second year on the young professional event scene, this gala at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science promises a night full of networking, dancing, and giving back. This gala, themed "A Night at the Museum," will allow full access to four floors of the museum after hours. It benefits Millennials for STEM, which aims to encourage kids to engage in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The 2017 StyleMaker Awards will take place at Tootsies once again.

Dallas opening of NY Mediterranean restaurant Avra draws society set

What: Avra Dallas VIP opening party

Where: at The Crescent, 300 Crescent Court

The 411: An unusually high-wattage crowd of more than 500 turned out on September 18 for the VIP opening of Avra Estiatorio, a Mediterranean restaurant concept founded in New York by restaurateurs Nick Tsoulos and Nick Pashalis, who were inspired by seaside tavernas across Greece. They've since opened locations in Manhattan and Beverly Hills where they're a favorite celebrity haunt, thanks to their vibrant energy and lavish design.

Rather than the usual assemblage of Instagram influencers, this opening drew a cross-section of real estate moguls, venture capitalists, fashion designers, and Real Housewives.

Food & Drink: Food offerings included a raw bar with oysters, shrimp, and lobster, a caviar station, a carving station featuring filet crostini with aioli or round pita. Snacks passed included Greek salad skewers, lamp lollipops, tuna tartare, crab cakes, "beefteki" skewers, spanakopita, and Wagyu burger sliders.

Drinks were flowing: In addition to a full open bar, they were pouring Mykonos Breeze martinis, margaritas and Moet Imperial Brut.

Attendees: Avra co-owners Marc Packer, Nick Pashalis, and Nick Tsoulos; Charlotte Jones and Amir Rozwadowski, Crescent owner John Goff and Cami Goff wiith son Travis and daughter-in-law Shelby, Amy Turner, Darren Blanton, Jen Miller, Andy Beal, Justin Cox, Annika Cail, Kristina Wrenn, Kent and Traci Rathbun, Sharon Lee Clark, Kari Brittingham, Elisabeth Landry, Chuck Steelman, Cathy James, DJ Steffi Burns, and Nicole Forster.
