Fur Ball Fun
The evening began with a warm welcome from co-chairs Katy Murray and Kelly Thompson, some cocktails and appetizers, and a chance to bid on silent auction items. Then it was dinnertime, so attendees — includingJeff Rich, Jan Miller, Melissa Rountree — scooted to the Omni ballroom.Katherine Coker, Cynthia Smoot, and
There master of ceremonies and SPCA of Texas board chair Jocelyn White and SPCA of Texas president James Bias reminded everyone that the key to the success of this wonderful organization is its wonderful supporters. They also presented the 2014 Spencer Humanitarian Award, with help from Mary Spencer, to Holly Forsythe, whose extraordinary efforts have made a positive difference for animals.
Supporters even got a visit from Jasper, the adorable German shepherd puppy that was recently adopted.
As dinner wound down, the live auction revved up, with such packages as a relaxing weekend at Lake Austin Spa and Dallas Stars tickets. After the last item hit the block, guests met SPCA alumna Bailey, who was dressed in a pink tutu and attending the event with her new forever family. That, of course, tugged at the heartstrings of many and encouraged them to make monetary donations.
For those who wanted to continue the adrenaline rush of the auction, there were casino games. Partygoers spent the remainder of the evening at those tables and on the dance floor, getting down to the sounds of Think Big Party Band.
All proceeds from this year’s Fur Ball, nearly $450,000, helps the SPCA of Texas, the leading animal welfare agency in North Texas, continue to rescue, heal and find homes for thousands of animals in the coming year.
