It may be true that Echelon, the young adult auxiliary group for the Salvation Army, is fairly new to the YP scene, but don’t think for a second that its members don’t know how to get together for some fun and philanthropy.
Urban Taco , celebrating its three year anniversary, was the spot for its latest rounding of the troops, and we’d say it was a huge success — as is usually the case when you mix twentysomethings, Mexican food and live Latin jazz by the James Gabriano Band.
Almost 200 guests — including Devin Cook, Caroline Thompson, Heather Young, Daniel Branch, Robert Wall, Jimmy Watson, Taylor Leibson, Lauren Toledo and Caroline Reinert — paraded onto the Urban Taco patio for margaritas, mini tacos and, of course, a wonderful cause.
“What stands out most to me about Echelon is that it isn't just about the social events or fundraising,” said Echelon president Christina Geyer. “While those things are important and definitely fun, our members and executive board are focused on creating opportunities for young people to actually work with the people that the Salvation Army serves.”
The young professionals in this group are active in their roles at the Carr P. Collins Social Services Center, working with the men, women and children who live there. The group feels that this personal interaction with their cause helps to further the Salvation Army’s mission of “doing the most good.”
Save the date for the second annual Echelon 30M Gala on May 10, 2014, which celebrates the work of the Salvation Army, an organization that serves 30 million people in the United States each year.
