Dallas couple blends family traditions for a one-of-a-kind wedding
Sometimes friendships really do turn into the best romantic relationships. That is the case with Pria Amin and her husband, Robert Dvorscak, who became fast friends during their freshman year at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
The two lived next to each other in their dorm that first year; however, they didn't start dating until November 2010 of their junior year. Four years later, Robert got on one knee at Pria's family beach house on Lake Michigan. Despite Pria's being a Dallasite, he knew that this was his bride-to-be's favorite spot in the whole world.
That said, Dallas was the decided location for the pair as they narrowed down the exact location for their May 7, 2016, nuptials. There was no theme, per se, but this couple prioritized personal touches during the planning process to pull off their dream wedding.
"We wanted a casual, light-hearted event to celebrate with our family and friends, many of whom traveled from all over the world to be with us," Pria says. "We were lucky enough to have a close family friend become ordained and perform our ceremony. Those personal touches were so important to us."
The couple wrote their own vows, the bride's sister designed all the paper products, and the mother of the bride and father of the groom said a prayer from each of their faiths. Pria's family is from India, so the Indian elements of the wedding were extremely important to the celebration, which began on the eve of the ceremony, with a traditional mehndi party.
As for a venue, the bride wanted something very organic that incorporated wildflowers and had beautiful natural light. Where else, then, than Trinity River Audubon Center?
The icing on the proverbial cake? The Bolsa Mercado catering team prepared an authentic Indian meal for the unforgettable affair.
"We honestly had the best time," Pria says. "The actual day was exactly how we pictured it, and we just wish it hadn't gone by so quickly!"
