    Say Spaaaah

Melt away holiday stress at this luxe resort that's just a few hours from Dallas

Despite all its sparkly decorations, delicious food, and festive excitement, the holidays can also be an intense and stressful time. Family comes into town. Children go crazy over sugar and gifts. The mall is packed with frenzied shoppers. So why not take some time to escape the madness? Choctaw Casino & Resort–Durant is the ideal place to relax and refresh during the holiday season.

Perhaps you're looking for a quick pre-Thanksgiving getaway, or the chance to steal away before all the Christmas events really ramp up. No matter when you carve out the time, Choctaw has plenty of ways to blow off steam. The resort's gorgeous hotel rooms offer incredible bathrooms, outfitted with deep tubs that are just begging for an uninterrupted bubble bath (stay in the Spa Tower for an extra touch of luxury). You won’t have to make your own bed or clean your own bathroom the entire time you're there.

Choctaw is an AAA Four Diamond entertainment destination, so you won’t have to worry about anything but having fun and unwinding while you’re there. And it wouldn’t be a casino without games, so make sure you come ready to play. A round of slots or blackjack is the right medicine to get your mind off the in-laws, and if you want to step away from the cards for a while, there are plenty of places to grab a drink around the tables. Who knows? Maybe you’ll make a few bucks and can pad your holiday shopping fund.

The resort boasts 12 onsite restaurants, so you’ll definitely be well-fed during your stay. And the best part is that you don't have to do any of the cooking (or dishes). Offerings include 1832 Steakhouse, where you can order up the perfect cut of meat; Bamboo Noodle Bar, to satisfy your Asian cuisine cravings; and La Cantina, for your taco and tequila fix.

"Me time" might be hard to come by around the holidays, but it's ready and waiting at Choctaw Casino & Resort–Durant's spa. Escape reality for a while through a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, or selection of body treatments. Registered guests can use the fitness center, lounge areas, steam room, and whirlpools for a daily resort fee. In-room spa serves and spa parties are also available.

During the season of giving, give yourself permission to rest and relax at Choctaw Casino & Resort–Durant — it'll definitely help you get on the "nice" list.

Escape the holiday madness this year — even if just for a day or two.

    How 'bout them dollar signs?

Value of Dallas Cowboys rushes to record $13 billion, per Forbes

The recent Micah Parsons trade might have fans scratching their heads, but financially speaking, the Dallas Cowboys continue to be the shining star of the NFL: Forbes’ 2025 list of the most valuable NFL franchises pegs the worth of the Cowboys at a record-setting $13 billion, up from a record-setting $10 billion last year.

Not a bad investment for Jerry Jones, who bought the franchise in 1989 for $150 million - a saga being revisited in the new Netflix docuseries America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys.

The Cowboys have been named Forbes’ most valuable NFL team for 19 years in a row. The publication estimated the Cowboys’ 2024 revenue exceeded $1.2 billion and the team’s operating profit reached $629 million.

Sportico recently valued America’s Team at $12.8 billion. In 2024, CNBC assigned an $11 billion valuation to the Cowboys.

Forbes pointed out that if Jones ever decided to sell the Cowboys, he might fetch more than $13 billion.

As the Forbes list indicates, a valuable team is not necessarily a winning team. For example, the Cowboys ended the 2024 NFL season with a 7-10 record, ranking third in the NFC East division. The ’Boys wound up with the same record in the 2023 season.

Jones, the 82-year-old owner, president, and general manager of the Cowboys, is actually worth more than his team is. Forbes estimates the net worth of Jones and his family stood at $16.3 billion as of August 29.

The only other NFL team in the Lone Star State, the Houston Texans, sits at No. 12 on the Forbes list with a valuation of $7.4 billion.

Two other NFL teams broke the $10 billion barrier on this year’s list: the Los Angeles Rams ($10.5 billion) and the New York Giants ($10.1 billion).

“Each of the league’s 32 teams are worth at least $5 billion for the first time — evidence that the NFL is a money-making machine and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon,” USA Today noted.

On average, the NFL’s 32 teams are worth $7.1 billion, according to Forbes.

    Tailgate with CultureMap
Dallas Cowboys fans can get in the gameday spirit at CultureMap's big fall sport bash, The Tailgate. Taking place at The Empire Room on Sunday, October 5 (aka the day the Cowboys take on the New York Jets), the party will include tailgate-inspired cuisine from local restaurants, premium cocktails, sports celebrity appearances, a silent auction of sports memorabilia, and more.

Early-bird tickets are now on sale for just $35, but don't wait - prices will go up soon. Read more about The Tailgate here and nab discounted tickets here. With sponsors like FLIGHT by Yuengling, Sportsmo, Puttshack, Mizzen+Main, Antone's Famous Po' Boys, NXL LVL Events, and more, this party will score big with everyone. You don't want to stay on the bench.
