Dallas Opera fans go wild celebrating annual pair of posh parties
Dallas Opera fans know to expect high fashion at the annual First Sight luncheon and First Night gala, but few were prepared for just how glamorous — and dramatic — this year's pair of parties would be.
International fashion house Dolce & Gabbana was the featured designer for 2019, bringing guests up onstage at the Winspear Opera House for what many agree was the most breathtaking fashion show yet. Glittering looks for both men and women glided through the crowd and the larger-than-life set for Mozart's The Magic Flute, which attendees would enjoy the next evening during First Night and is the opening production for the 2019-20 season.
Chairs Kim and Greg Hext, along with fashion presenter and luncheon chair Ellen Winspear, were sure to remind guests that this year celebrates the opening of the Winspear Opera House a decade ago. The building itself stood as a ruby-red backdrop for both events, as guests dined in its lobby for the luncheon and partied on its patio for the gala, with the Winspear family serving as honorary chairs for both events.
Those who attended the luncheon were inspired to do a little shopping, too. An artist was there to hand-paint designs on D&G handbags while the crowd watched, and a designer from the house sketched live, surrounded by exquisite ensembles.
The guests themselves made sure to dress their best, with Nancy Nasher, Liz and Scott Kimple, David Haemisegger, TDO music director Emmanuel Villaume, TDO general director and CEO Ian Derrer, Diane Brierley, Meredith Land, Bela Cooley, Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, Myrna Schlegel, and Krystal Schlegel Davis looking as elegant as could be.
The next night, dinner chairs Carol and Don Glendenning joined the Hexts in surprising attendees with a new partnership with the Dallas Zoo. Winspear the cheetah posed for photos and proved that animal print is always a classic choice.
