    This Week's Hot Headlines

Closing time for popular pub leads this week's top Dallas stories

    Stephanie Allmon Merry
    Nov 18, 2017 | 10:00 am

Editor's note: A lot happened this week, so here's your chance to get caught up. Read on for the week's most popular headlines.

    1. Sherlock's Baker St. Pub shutters location, leaving only one in DFW. The local pub scene is taking a loss, with a sudden closure of an institution in Arlington. The Sherlock's Baker St. Pub, located at Lincoln Square, closed abruptly on November 11.

    2. The Real Housewives of Dallas ends with roses, thorns, and too many metaphors. We last saw LeeAnne Locken storming off set during Part 1 of The Real Housewives of Dallas Reunion, incensed by the revelation that Mark Deuber would be joining the girls to talk about the allegations LeeAnne made against him this season. It’s wild that a sartorially-inclined plastic surgeon can strike such fear into her brave, carnie heart.

    3. Whole Foods slashing prices for Amazon Prime members right now. On the heels of its $13.7 billion acquisition by Amazon, Whole Foods Market is giving us a glimpse at the price breaks it will be extending to members of Amazon Prime.

    4. Dallas couple dances on air at their dreamy downtown wedding. When Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans in 2005, it shattered Deryn Derbigny’s dreams. She moved to Dallas, and it wasn’t until months later that she could pick up the pieces and start anew. Years later, new dreams came true when she married Dr. Charles Toulson in a fairytale wedding at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.

    5. Vintage building in Dallas' West End makes magnificent comeback. A century-old warehouse in downtown Dallas' West End has been remodeled into a creative workspace that still retains many of its original historical features. Called Factory Six03, it's opening in the iconic 114-year-old warehouse formerly known as the West End Marketplace, at 603 Munger St.

The old West End Marketplace gets a new lease on life.

Editor's note: The top Dallas news of the week highlights a sweet new shop opening in McKinney. Plus, billionaires abound in Dallas while a 1970s restaurant chain dwindles down to one location in the area. Get the details on our most popular stories below, then find the best things to do this weekend right here.

    1. Over-the-top bakery-candy shop Pinkitzel puts McKinney in the pink. A fabulously over-the-top bakery and boutique has debuted in historic downtown McKinney: Called Pinkitzel, it's a bakery, candy shop, and gift boutique now open at 101 W. Louisiana St., taking over a space that was previously Homeology.

    2. 19 Dallas-area billionaires make 2025 Forbes list of richest Americans. Nineteen Dallas-Fort Worth billionaires have landed on Forbes' prestigious list of the 400 richest Americans in 2025. And it's been a good year for this elite club: America's wealthiest billionaires are $1.2 trillion richer in 2025, bringing their collective worth to a staggering $6.6 trillion.

    Houlihan's Houlihan's had been there since 2010. Houlihan's

    3. Houlihan's in Garland closes, leaving one restaurant in Dallas area. In bad news for fans of the "Famous 'Shrooms," Houlihan's, the restaurant chain dating back to the early 1970s, has closed its location in Garland, on the south side of Firewheel Town Center at 660 Town Center Blvd., where it had been open for 15 years.

    4. New East Dallas dive bar opens with karaoke and cocktail cred. East Dallas has a new bar from a big name in the beverage business. Called Rising Tides, it just opened at 9909 Garland Rd. under the helm of veteran mixologist/bartender Alex Fletcher, founder of Shaken + Stirred Hospitality.

    5. Curuba Colombia Kitchen brings arepas and empanadas to Allen. A restaurant serving Colombian food has debuted in Allen: Curuba Colombia Kitchen is a mom-and-pop featuring authentic Colombian dishes now open at 1546 Stacy Rd. #165, at Lost Creek Village, in a former mochi doughnut shop.
