Condoleezza Rice moves Dallas elite to give a million for cancer fight
What: A Conversation With a Living Legend 2015
Where: Hilton Anatole
The 411: Under the astute leadership of event chair Ashley Rankin, as well as co-chairs Anita Arnold and Su-Su Meyer, A Conversation With a Living Legend put around $1 million in the coffers for the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The draw? Emmy Award-winning CBS journalist Norah O’Donnell, who was interviewing former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Dr. Rice was the second woman and first African-American woman to hold the post, and she was also the first woman to serve as assistant to the president for national security affairs, under President George W. Bush.
The annual Dallas-Fort Worth event helps fund MD Anderson’s Moon Shots Program, an accelerated, comprehensive effort to significantly reduce cancer deaths and transform cancer care. It was founded in 1990 by Lyda Hill, who was in attendance and a premier sponsor for 2015. A Conversation With a Living Legend has raised more than $15.2 million for MD Anderson over the years, and it has inspired similar interview-style events in such cities as Washington D.C., Houston, Las Vegas, San Antonio, and Atlanta.
