Isn't she lovely
New Galleria Dallas photo exhibit turns the lens on supermodels
Supermodels will descend on Galleria Dallas this fall. In September, the shopping center will present "Age of the Supermodel: The Photographs of Donna DeMari," a collection of previously unpublished photographs and behind-the-scenes footage of models and designers at the 1991 Paris Fashion Week.
A collaboration with 1814 Magazine and the Texas Fashion Collection, the exhibit will be on display for lovers of fashion, art, and window-shopping. Over 50 backstage photographs, rare video footage, and haute couture pieces (courtesy of UNT’s Texas Fashion Collection) will be included.
Back in the '90s, Donna DeMari was one of the few people who had ever been granted an inner glimpse into the backstage happenings of models and designers. She captured genuine, raw moments of the world’s most beautiful women adorned in the most rare and exquisite designs from around the globe.
DeMari also was a pioneer for female photographers. She was the first woman to shoot the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in 1995 and 1996. She’s built quite the resume, with work published in Italian Vogue, L’Officiel, and French Marie Claire. She’s also been the focus of multiple television specials in which she expresses her views as a female fashion photographer.
Photographs captured on DeMari’s Nikon F2 of supermodels Linda Evangelista, Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, and many more will be featured at the Galleria. Renowned designs of Chanel, Valentino, Givenchy, and more complement their unguarded faces.
“Galleria Dallas is proud to host this amazing collection of historic fashion images and the garments showcased by them” says Martha Hinojosa, Galleria Dallas director of marketing, in a release. “We have a strong history of bringing fashion and its history to life in our space, and we are committed to creating interactive, educational, and entertaining experiences such as this for the shoppers of North Texas.”
The Galleria's 2016 exhibition "Decadence: Fashions from the 1920s" was a hit with shoppers and fashion critics alike.
"Age of the Supermodel" will be displayed on the Galleria's first floor, south side, from September 15-October 28. Many lectures and events will be offered during the course of the exhibition, including a talk with DeMari herself.
