Car chase ends with deadly SWAT standoff in Dallas mall parking lot
Dallas police have confirmed that one man is dead after a car chase devolved into a SWAT standoff on Monday afternoon. The chase began around 1:30 pm when Dallas police officers attempted to serve the suspect with a felony warrant near Camp Wisdom Road in Cockrell Hill.
The man took off in a red four-door sedan, driving southbound to the 7100 block of Marvin D. Love Freeway in Dallas. After stopping briefly, the man drove to Southwest Center Mall and parked his car. Dallas SWAT unit arrived on the scene and attempted to negotiate with the armed suspect.
Around 2 pm, police requested a flight restriction in the area and asked media helicopters to back away from the scene. Shortly after that directive, shots were fired and the suspect went down.
Lt. Max Geron said the incident would be investigated as an officer-involved shooting, though some reports indicate the suspect may have shot himself.
