One of Dallas' most irritating freeway ramps is about to get better

There are many terrible exit and entrance ramps around Dallas freeways, but a top candidate for the absolute worst is about to improve. This is the on-ramp if you're getting onto Woodall Rogers Freeway from I-30 or northbound on I-35E.

Mark it on your calendar, June 18 will be the opening of new ramp.

The ramp will create new access points for traffic coming from northbound I-35E, eastbound I-30, and from both Reunion Boulevard and eastbound Commerce Street.

Summing up in list format first:

From northbound I-35E, you'll use Exit 428, the same exit you use for Reunion Boulevard and Commerce Street.
From eastbound I-30, you'll use Exit 45A, the "I-45/U.S. 75 - Commerce Street."
From eastbound Commerce Street and Reunion Boulevard, you'll head north on Riverfront Boulevard to get to Woodall Rogers.

From Northbound I-35E
To access the new exit to Woodall Rodgers Freeway, traffic coming from northbound I-35E will now use Exit 428 toward I-45/U.S. 75., which is located just after the Houston Street Viaduct.

As you cruise 35E north, the exit appears earlier than it used to. And where it used to say "Reunion Boulevard/Commerce Street," they've added I-45 and U.S. 75 to the sign.

Once you take exit 428, you swing to the left for Woodall Rogers.

This exit will also continue to be used to access Reunion Boulevard and Commerce Street. The old exit, 429A, located north of the Mixmaster, will be closed.

From Eastbound I-30
Traffic coming from eastbound I-30 will now use Exit 45A toward I-45/U.S. 75 and Commerce Street to access Woodall Rodgers. This eliminates the horrendous task of merging onto northbound I-35E to then swing right onto the old pothole-stricken exit.

If you're driving eastbound on I-30, coming from Fort Worth, Woodall Rogers now has its own dedicated on-ramp in Exit 45A. You initially get the same choice you've always gotten — I-35E north or Commerce Street. But now the Commerce Street exit, which used to be for downtown only, has an I-45 and U.S. 75 component. That ramp turns into a fork. You go right for downtown Dallas, or left/straight for Woodall Rogers.

Eventually, there will be a direct connector from I-30 to Woodall Rogers.

From Reunion Boulevard and eastbound Commerce Street
Traffic coming from Reunion Boulevard and eastbound Commerce Street will head north on Riverfront Boulevard to use the entrance ramp to Woodall Rodgers Freeway.
