Teen accused of strangling 5-year-old cousin to death in Lake Highlands
Dallas police have arrested a teen suspect in the murder of 5-year-old Kathrine Alejandra Gonzalez, who was found strangled to death on August 31.
Her cousin, 17-year-old Angel Lizandro Sanches-Zenteno has been charged with capital murder. He is in the Dallas County Jail on a $1 million bond.
According to witnesses, at 11:30 am Kathrine was seen playing with her sisters outside her family's Lake Highlands apartment complex in the 9500 block of Royal Lane. By noon, her aunt had reported her missing.
A few hours later, Dallas police found the child's body in a vacant apartment unit. The initial cause of death is strangulation, though an official autopsy is pending.
"Many of the neighbors in this complex began searching for the child and everyone was extremely cooperative and helpful to our officers," Dallas police said in a statement. "People allowed officers access to their homes and cars and went out of their way to help."
Sanches-Zenteno is believed to be the last person who saw Kathrine alive. He was interviewed for hours at police headquarters the day of the crime and was booked into jail on a capital murder charge at 5:28 am September 1.
