With the unemployment rate for those below the age of 30 hovering at 12 percent — nearly twice as high as most estimates of the national average — many young people are happy just to have a job. But, for those young professionals that can afford to be choosy, Careerbliss.com has rated the best 20 cities for enjoying the entry into adulthood.
The study analyzes data taken from about 38,000 employees between 2011 and 2012 and rates 10 factors thought of as keys to happiness. These factors include salary packages, company culture, daily tasks, one's relationship with boss and coworkers, and work-life balance. Responders also rated how important each factor was to their work satisfication. This resulted in a "bliss score" for each city on a scale from 1 to 5.
Good news for Dallas-Fort Worth youngsters looking for work: Irving and Plano are home to some of the nation's happiest young professionals. Coming in at no. 13, Irving earned a bliss score of 3.78, while Plano claimed no. 18 with a score of 3.71.
Other Texas cities making the grade include San Antonio (no. 10 with a 3.83 score) and Houston (no. 20 with a 3.67 score).
