Music in a Ballpark
Country star joins other big names making pilgrimage to Globe Life Park in Arlington
Country star Jason Aldean will play at Globe Life Park in Arlington on Friday, October 11, the third big-name artist to announce a concert at the ballpark in the past five months. That will make for a big concert weekend at the venue, as Billy Joel will also be playing there on October 12.
The Texas Rangers and Live Nation made the announcement on April 29 at Live! Arena inside Texas Live. Rangers Hall of Fame Outfielder Rusty Greer, the Voice of Globe Life Park Chuck Morgan, Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams, Arlington CVB President Ronnie Price, and representatives from Live Nation were on hand for the announcement. There was also a special video announcement from Aldean.
Aldean will be joined by opening acts Kane Brown, Carly Pearce, and DJ Silver.
Paul McCartney, who will be playing there on June 6, was the first bold-faced name to announce a stop at the current home of the Texas Rangers. The concert, McCartney’s only stop in Texas, will be in support of his new album, Egypt Station. It will reportedly be a nearly three-hour-long show featuring dozens of songs from McCartney's solo career, time with Wings, and the Beatles catalog.
Joel joined the party a little over a month later when he announced his upcoming concert. Joel will be playing a variety of ballparks across the country, including Coors Field in Denver and Fenway Park in Boston. With the Rangers playing better than expected this season, there remains the possibility that both Joel’s and Aldean's concerts will be in conflict with any playoff run the team may make.
Prior to 2019, the ballpark had not previously hosted any large-scale concerts. This is the final season the Rangers will play at Globe Life Park in Arlington before moving across the street to Globe Life Field in 2020. According to Rangers spokesman John Blake, the three upcoming concerts are the final shows at Globe Life Park in Arlington as a baseball park. After the Rangers movie, the venue will be reconfigured as a football venue for the XFL, but there remains the possibility that future concerts will be held in the yet-to-be-named stadium.
Citi cardmembers will have access to purchase presale tickets beginning Tuesday, May 7 at noon local time. The general on-sale starts Friday, May 10 at 10 am CDT via JasonAldean.com and LiveNation.com.
