    Rangers News

Check out the Texas Rangers' colorful new uniforms for the 2020 season

    That powder-blue is certainly eye-catching.
    Texas Rangers

In sports fashion news, the Texas Rangers have a new set of uniforms in anticipation of their move to Globe Life Field for the 2020 season.

Globe Life Field is their new stadium, and is scheduled to open in March 2020. So no wonder there are new uniforms. It's like when you go to a new school.

The 2020 uniforms mark the first changes in the Rangers' uniforms since 2014. Prior to that change, the last uniform alteration was in 2009.

The uniforms were unveiled on December 4 at Live! by Loews-Arlington with Rangers manager Chris Woodward and five players — Willie Calhoun, Shin-Soo Choo, Delino DeShields, Joey Gallo, and Jose Trevino — modeling the new looks.

    The complete lineup includes:

    • three home jerseys
    • two road jerseys
    • a new spring training jersey

Even a jersey for spring training? Remember when there used to be "home" and "away"? Life was so simple then.

The primary home white jersey will feature the return of the script "Rangers" on the front for the first time since 1993, and is also the first time that "Rangers" has appeared on the home jersey front in any font since 2008.

In addition, the club is introducing a powder blue alternate home uniform that will be worn for Sunday games in 2020, which also features the script "Rangers" on the front. The only prior time the club has ever worn powder blue jerseys and pants was as its primary road uniform from 1975-82.

The new secondary logo features a white block "TX" outlined with the State of Texas. It will appear on the front of that new blue spring training jersey, as well as other "branding applications." The Rangers' primary circle T logo remains unchanged.

Here's all the details on each of the new uniforms:

Primary Home: White jersey with blue and red piping on sleeves. "Rangers" in blue script lettering with red outline on front of jersey. Player name in block lettering and number in blue with red outline on back of jersey. White pants with blue and red piping. Can be worn with all blue cap with white block T and red outline and blue belts/socks OR all red cap with white block T and blue outline and red belts/socks.

Alternate Home (to be worn on Friday games): Red jersey with blue and red piping on sleeves. "TEXAS" in white block lettering with blue outline on front of jersey. Player name in block lettering and number in white with blue outline on back of jersey. White pants with blue and red piping. Red cap with TX in white block lettering and blue outline and blue bill and button. Red belts and socks (TX logo).

Alternate Home (to be worn on Sunday games): Powder blue jersey with blue and red piping on sleeves. "Rangers" in white script lettering with red outline on front of jersey. Player name in block lettering and number in white with red outline on back of jersey. Powder blue pants with blue, white, and red piping. Powder blue cap with “T” in white block lettering and red outline and blue bill and button. Blue belts and socks.

Primary Road: Gray jersey with blue, white, and red piping on sleeves. "TEXAS" in blue block lettering with red and white outline on front of jersey. Player name in block lettering and number in blue with red and white outline on back of jersey. Gray pants with blue, white, and red piping. All blue cap with white block T and red outline. Blue belts and socks.

Alternate Road: Blue jersey with powder blue, white, and red piping on sleeves. "TEXAS" in white block lettering with red outline on front of jersey. Player name in block lettering and number in blue with red and white outline on back of jersey. Gray pants with blue, white and red piping. All blue cap with white block T and red outline. Blue belts and socks (TX logo).

Spring Training: Blue jersey with powder blue, white, and red piping on sleeves. New secondary TX logo on left front of jersey. Player name in block lettering and number in white with red outline on back of jersey. White pants with blue and red piping. Blue cap with block T containing red, white, and blue design with red bill and button. Blue belts and socks.

All six jerseys will feature the Texas flag patch on the left sleeve. All five regular season jerseys also include the Globe Life Field Inaugural Season patch on the right sleeve.

The Rangers have also updated the outline for the names and numbers on the back of each jersey to a drop shadow design. Nike will be the official manufacturer of Major League Baseball uniforms for the first time in 2020.

And here's the important part: Merchandise with the new uniform designs, including jerseys and caps, is now on sale at the Grand Slam Gift Shop at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Podcaster lets creepy noises get under her skin in Undertone

While the horror genre is still capable of producing some innovative filmmaking, most of the output tends to fall back on jump scares and other tropes to deliver their terror. So when a film like the new Undertone tries something different, it should be applauded for the effort, even if it’s not as successful in its execution.

Evy (Nina Kiri) is a podcaster who co-hosts a show called Undertone, which focuses on paranormal videos and sounds they find on the internet. Her co-host, Justin (Adam DiMarco), lives in London, so - for kind of contrived reasons - in order to make the time difference between them work, Evy records at around 3 am her time. Evy - who lives at home with her bedridden, dying mother - is the skeptic of the two, consistently debunking clips that Justin presents to her.

Her doubts are tested when Justin brings in a series of 10 audio clips that purport to be about a boyfriend recording his girlfriend as she talks in her sleep. The audio begins in a lighthearted manner and quickly turns creepy and then sinister as unexplained things start happening. Evy senses that what she’s hearing is bleeding into her own world, especially when inexplicable actions take place in her mother’s bedroom.

Written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Ian Tuason, the film is effective early on when it introduces the story concept. Making great use of sound design, Tuason essentially puts the audience inside Evy’s head, where every little sound is heightened. Setting the podcast sessions in the middle of the night ups the anxiety level for both her and the audience.

However, as the film goes along it gets a little tedious watching Evy listen to the audio, even as Tuason attempts to keep the film dynamic by moving the camera around her. The premise of the story - progressively going through 10 clips - and Tuason’s framing of shots that focus as much on the background as they do on Evy seem to promise more interesting results than actually transpire.

What ultimately holds the film down more than anything is its lack of different viewpoints. The only other person who’s actually seen is Evy’s mother, who is unable to speak. Evy speaks to Justin, another friend, and a doctor over the course of the story, and while each broadens our understanding of Evy somewhat, none of them make her a truly three-dimensional person. Getting a little more information about her history might have helped the story work better.

Kiri does her level best to vary her acting in the various podcast scenes, and even when they start to get repetitive, she remains compelling and watchable. It’s difficult to judge the other actors based on audio alone, but knowing that DiMarco also starred in season 2 of The White Lotus helps to visualize him and his acting style.

Undertone does well in creating a spine-chilling mood, but it needed something beyond that to become a truly great horror movie. Tuason shows some promise as a filmmaker, especially in the way he uses the camera to create tension, but a more complete story will serve him better the next time around.
