Christmas in Garland means a month of magical festivities and fun
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Garland. The town is decking the halls and celebrating all the holiday delights with a month of festive events, shopping, and merriment — and it all starts with a tree lighting, naturally.
Here are six bright ways you can usher in the season in Garland:
Roam through a candy cane forest and see the big tree
The first day of December is giving all the holiday spirit with A Garland Christmas at Firewheel, an outdoor tree lighting celebration at Firewheel Town Center that offers everything from roaming carolers and live reindeer to a candy cane forest, food trucks, holiday obstacle courses, and performances from The Big Easy Brass Band and local schools. Of course, Santa will be in the house, too. You can also bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Garland Fire Department Toy Drive while there.
Take a carriage ride and peek inside ‘lit’ homes
Ring in the holiday with Magical Candelight Christmas-Town on December 2, a warm and beautiful tour of lit-and-decorated homes on Garland's 11th Street and in nearby historic Embree. After peeking inside the festively inspired abodes, you’ll find plenty more Christmas cheer with horse-drawn carriage rides, costumed interpreters, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a crafts booth, carolers and performing groups on two stages, and more.
See everyone’s favorite prince
With all the elaborate sets, scenery, and costumes you could ever want, Dallas Ballet Company’s rendition of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece The Nutcracker delivers in spades — and sugar plums. World-renowned guest artists and company members are in the mix to tell the magical journey of Clara and her Nutcracker Prince from December 2-11.
Watch your fave flicks in a retro-cool theater
From December 2-14, the historic Plaza Theatre is showing all the holiday screen darlings, everything from A Christmas Story to It’s A Wonderful Life, Elf, and The Santa Clause. So you can see your faves in a cool, art deco setting that reflects the theater’s ’40s-era roots.
Have a bevvie while browsing
The Holiday Sip-N-Stroll on December 9 makes shopping a breeze, with Downtown Garland shops and businesses pouring complimentary cocktails and mocktails while you browse. Also on tap? Santa and The Grinch will be making the rounds and there will be photo opps at the Eternal Sunshine Photo Bus, crafts at the Garland Central Library, and plenty more holiday fun.
Schedule some stage time
A Christmas Carol is the age-old story that’s forever a holiday must-see. See CORP’s fresh, heartfelt stage adaptation of the Dickens’ classic from December 9-17 at the Plaza Theatre.
