Death, horses and hookers: The 5 most popular stories this week
Editor's note: Another week has come and gone, and there's a lot we all probably missed. But we're looking out for you, kid. Here are the most popular stories from this past week:
1. Dallas guitarist Mike Scaccia, of Ministry and Rigor Mortis fame, died December 23 at Fort Worth club. Scaccia, 47, achieved national acclaim as guitarist for metal-rock bands such as Ministry, the Skatenigs and Rigor Mortis. He died during a performance at the Rail Club in Fort Worth.
2. A Christmas miracle: 300 North Texas horses find a new home. The Olympian Ranch in North Texas has sold to a new owner — which wouldn’t be uncommon or news at all, except for one fact: The property has been home to 300 heritage horses, which have been living on the land for 10 years.
3. CulturePoll: What was the top shop to hit the Dallas fashion scene in fall 2012? Fall 2012 brought with it many fashionable openings, including a new Highland Park Village boutique from Brian Bolke and first shops for designers Angela Scott and Nicole Kwon. Men hit the jackpot too, with two service-driven spots in West Village: WAREhaus and Rye 51. You can still vote daily for your favorite new store through December 30.
4. Olympian who moonlighted as a $600-per-hour, high-end hooker made a Dallas stop. Suzy Favor Hamilton calls her time as an escort a "huge mistake" and made a public apology on Twitter.
5. Manly hangout H&G Supply Co. to bring Paleo diet menu to Greenville Avenue. Dallas has Tex-Mex, taquerias, burger joints and even vegetarian restaurants. But like many cities, it lacks a restaurant devoted specifically to the Paleolithic diet. But that's about to change.
