The hot seat
Oprah heads to Texas for an exclusive interview with Lance Armstrong
It's 2013, and the Lance Armstrong saga just won't quit. Apparently last week's New York Times postulation (thanks to an anonymous source) that Lance Armstrong might admit to using performance enhancing drugs was just the beginning to his time in the spotlight this year. Enter: Oprah.
On Tuesday, Oprah.com's press room announced that Oprah Winfrey is headed to Armstrong's home for an exclusive interview with the cycling phenom for a "no-holds-barred" interview about the USADA doping scandal, cheating accusations and charges of lying about using performance enhancing drugs.
Winfrey will speak with Armstrong at his home in Austin, Texas, in his only interview since the seven-time Tour de France winner was stripped of his titles and dropped from millions of dollars in endorsement deals after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released an extensive report accusing the renowned cyclist of doping throughout his career.
The exclusive 90-minute interview will air as a special episode of Oprah's Next Chapter on Thursday, January 17 at 8 pm CST. While the tell-all piece is exclusive to OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, non-subscribers should not fret. The interview will be simultaneously streamed live, worldwide, on Oprah.com.
90-minutes leaves much to be discussed, especially after Armstrong's trying 2012. Will he go on record with an official admittance to the doping charges that plagued him in 2012? Address the decision to step down as chairman of the Livestrong Foundation? Tell us how it feels to be crowned Texas Monthly'sBum Steer of the Year?
Perhaps he'll finally give a good explanation for that less-than-tasteful November Twitter photo. We'll just have to check in with Oprah on January 17 to find out.
