Teen chain Five Below will soon hawk $5 backpacks in Dallas-Fort Worth
Teen favorite Five Below, a dollar-store chain with trendy merchandise, is coming to malls across Dallas in September, including Prestonwood Town Center. Company representatives don't yet have an exact opening date, but 11 stores will open around DFW simultaneously.
Five Below is a little like Claire's on steroids, with fashion accessories, sporting goods, games, candy, snacks, décor, stationery, school supplies and seasonal merchandise, priced from $1 to $5.
The stock at five Below turns over quickly based on what's hot from month to month. One recent hit: brightly patterned duct tape.
The stock turns over quickly based on what's hot from month to month; one recent hit was brightly patterned duct tape, which teens used creatively to make bracelets and other jewelry. Back-to-school items currently being featured on the website include a collection of $5 backpacks.
Following its pattern of tailoring the merchandise to each city, Five Below stores in Dallas will feature a collection of Dallas Cowboys-themed goods such as an iPhone case, sunglasses and flip flops.
The 11 stores extend from Dallas to Denton to Fort Worth. Locations include Wheatland Towne Crossing in Dallas, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Rockwall and Wylie.
"We look for shopping centers in areas with a strong economy and family-oriented population where we think our trend-right, extreme-value products for teens and pre-teens will be well received," says Elizabeth Romaine, director of marketing operations at Five Below.
Five Below first entered Texas in August, with the opening of four stores in Austin. Since its launch in 2009, Five Below has opened 50 stores each year. Currently there are 275 stores throughout the U.S.
