It's a dry heat
Hot Hollywood health phenomenon steams up Dallas at luxe sauna studio
In time to get the New Year's sweat on, a new studio in Dallas' Old Town center is helping clients glisten and glow without an aerobic machine in site.
CYL Sauna Studio — short for Change Your Life — uses infrared light to produce the "deepest, most detoxifying sweat," a technique supporters claim provides massive health benefits including detoxification, pain relief, skin rejuvenation, lower blood pressure, and weight loss.
CYL is open now at 5500 Greenville Ave. #214 at Lovers Lane, across from the entrance of Central Market. (Convenient for post-sweat snacks!)
According to a release, Dallas natives and sisters-in-law Lyle Foster Scovell and Tory McGuire Foster opened the studio after experiencing the infrared light therapy’s benefits via the CYL Austin location. The Dallas studio is the second CYL in Texas; there are also locations in Nashville (where CYL was founded), Memphis, and Boulder, Colorado.
Clients sit in a personal sauna suite for a 30- to 40-minute session during which the body is exposed to heat and far infrared light.
"Sweating is the body’s safest and most natural way to heal and stay healthy," the company says in a release. "The use of infrared light therapy has been documented for decades because of its scientifically-proven mental and physical health benefits."
According to CYL, as the heat warms the body, the light is able to penetrate joints, muscles, and tissues, purportedly providing pain relief while inducing a state of relaxation.
“I have a torn hip, labrum and a bad back, and sitting for long periods of time is misery,” says Scovell in the release. “Even just after one sweat, I noticed a marked improvement in my hip mobility and reduction in back pain. Once we opened our studio, I was able to sweat three times a week and I cannot believe how much my pain has decreased and my mobility has increased.”
The studio is equipped with 11 private rooms and two tandem suites, where clients can sweat with a friend, and offers individual sessions, packages, and monthly memberships. Memberships to CYL include drop-in rates ($30 for your first session and monthly memberships ranging from $69-$195 per month.
Each sauna suite features nine different heat levels, soft lighting, and soothing music, promoting a peaceful wellness experience.
“The sense of calm, tension relief and overall energy boost we felt after booking a 30-minute sweat session was indescribable,” says Foster. “We knew we had to bring it to our own city, where health and wellness is a priority.”
Saunas are a health trend that's been heating up Hollywood the past few years. Reportedly, sauna devotees include Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and, of course, Gwyneth Paltrow.
CYL Dallas is open seven days a week, with booking available via their website.
