Popular home decor company picks Dallas Farmers Market for flagship store
Dallas Farmers Market is getting a new tenant — and it’s a big one. Oklahoma-based Urban Farmhouse Designs is expanding and opening a new flagship retail store, and DFM is the lucky recipient. The 10,500-square-foot store will be located at 1011 S. Pearl Expwy., across from The Market.
Started by Jason and Cherami Thomas in 2013, Urban Farmhouse Designs is known for its one-of-a-kind, handcrafted home furnishings and home accents created from vintage, reclaimed wood and artifacts sourced from old railroad cars, barns, and other relics of the past. By using recycled wood, the pieces created by Urban Farmhouse Designs lessen the environmental impact that traditional forest harvesting has — and helps to preserve a little slice of Americana.
The new store will also create about 60 new jobs, and in keeping with theme of second chances, and the couple’s mantra of “reclaimed furniture made by reclaimed people,” it will look to employ workers from half-way houses and local artisans needing a helping hand.
“The Dallas Farmers Market is a natural fit for our flagship store because it is a destination spot with food, vendors, and events, and it celebrates all things local,” says Cherami in a release. “Half of our customers are from Texas, now they won’t need to schedule a road trip to buy furnishings made in the USA while supporting the community.”
The opening of the store is yet another boost for an already revitalized market.
“This is an exciting time for the neighborhood, and Urban Farmhouse Designs will be a welcome addition,” says Brian Bergersen, partner at DF Market Holdings, who is leading the redevelopment and revitalization efforts. “Dallasites have watched the Farmers Market transform into an energetic community, ushering in a wave of urban living where people are able to work, live, shop, play, and relax all in the same in-town neighborhood.”
Established in 1941, the Dallas Farmers Market is one of the largest and oldest food distribution centers in the country. DF Market Holdings bought a majority stake in the market from the city in 2013 and has steadily been revitalizing it. The daytime market is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and operates out of The Shed at 1010 S. Pearl Expwy. in downtown Dallas.
The Market houses more than two dozen merchants, food vendors, and restaurants and is open seven days a week, from 10 am - 6 pm, with some concepts opening earlier or staying open later.
