U.S. News ranks Dallas' UT Southwestern as No. 2 best hospital in Texas
Dallas' UT Southwestern Medical Center has retained its U.S. News & World Report ranking as the No. 2 best hospital in Texas, and No. 1 in Dallas-Fort Worth. Nine other DFW hospitals also ranked in the top 30.
The accolades appear in U.S. News’ 2024-25 ranking of the best hospitals nationwide. Each hospital also ranked among various specialties, such as orthopedics; cardiology, heart, and vascular surgery; cancer; and neurology and neurosurgery.
Previously, the hospital shared the No. 1 spot with Houston Methodist Hospital in 2023.
In a press release, UT Southwestern president Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D. shared his gratitude for the recent honors, and reignited the hospital system's dedication to "translating scientific discoveries into improved treatments" for both patients in Dallas and around the world.
"Our collaborative multidisciplinary approach to patient care, as in our overall mission to educate, discover, and heal, continues to drive innovation at UT Southwestern and produce exceptional outcomes for the patients and families we are privileged to serve," said Podolsky. "In parallel with ensuring that our patients have access to the most advanced technologies and treatments, we remain hyperfocused on providing the best care experience for them and their families."
In the same ranking, Baylor University Medical Center came out as the No. 3 best hospital in Texas, and No. 2 across DFW.
Other top-ranking Texas hospitals located in Dallas-Fort Worth include:
- No. 11 – Baylor Scott and White All Saints Medical Center - Fort Worth
- No. 13 – Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas
- No. 15 – Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest, Fort Worth (tied with Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin and Christus Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler)
- No. 18 – Medical City Dallas and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth(tied)
- No. 23 – Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Grapevine, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano (tied)
Texas' best hospitals are in Houston
Houston's MD Anderson Cancer Center once again topped the list as the best cancer hospital in the U.S. Since U.S. News introduced its annual hospital survey in 1990, MD Anderson has been ranked one of the two best U.S. hospitals for cancer care. It has maintained its No. 1 ranking for 10 consecutive years.
“At MD Anderson, our mission is clear: to end cancer,” Dr. Peter WT Pisters, president of MD Anderson, says in a news release. “This ranking reflects our relentless commitment to excellence in patient care, research, prevention, and education.”
MD Anderson also ranked highly in three specialties:
- No. 2 for ear, nose, and throat.
- No. 9 for urology.
- No. 14 for gastroenterology and GI surgery.
“The consistent top national recognitions [that] MD Anderson receives for delivering compassionate, evidence-based care is a testament to our dedication to those we serve,” Pisters says.
Houston Methodist Hospital was crowned the overall best hospital in Texas for the 13th year in a row. Also, it was lauded as one of the country’s 20 best hospitals for the eighth time. Along with the general ranking, Houston Methodist Hospital scored high marks in 10 specialties. These include diabetes and endocrinology (No. 6), gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 7), and pulmonology and lung surgery (No. 8).
