Dallas burger restaurant brings its bun tricks to Walnut Hill complex
A Dallas burger restaurant with a one-of-a-kind bun gimmick is expanding. Dugg Burger, which specializes in burgers that are served in a hollowed-out bun, will open a new location at 7949 Walnut Hill Ln. #120, in the space vacated in 2019 by Daphne's Mediterranean.
According to a representative from the company, they hope to open the location in the spring.
Dugg was founded in 2015, when the first location opened in Dallas' Casa Linda Plaza. Coming up with something innovative in the burger world is no small feat, and Dugg did it. They start with the bun, whose center they rip out, creating a lower bun-to-burger ratio than the usual burger.
You can then choose from about a dozen toppings such as hickory-smoked bacon, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and fire-roasted jalapeños.
The patty gets added last, hot off the grill. All toppings are included in the price.
Ingredients are locally-sourced whenever possible such as brioche buns from Empire Baking Co., gluten free buns from Local Oven, and ice cream from Henry’s.
The hollowed-out buns make the addition of toppings a little more neat, and the scooped-out bread is used to make bread pudding. And so the cycle is complete.
In addition to burgers, Dugg offers fries and drinks, including wine and local craft beers.
The company did open a location in Plano at Preston Road and Park Boulevard in 2016, but that has since closed.
The space they're moving into has a rocky history, mostly due to the operators. It started out as VertsKebap; then was renamed Verts Mediterranean; which in a rebranding became Noon Mediterranean; which was acquired by Daphne's Mediterranean; which closed all of its Texas locations in 2019.
Godspeed Dugg!
