This week in gluttony
Oscar parties and gluten-free crawls: The best food and drink events in Dallas this week
Fact: The final two weeks of February contribute to the creation of more sad songs than any other fortnight. The last vestiges of the holiday season evaporated with Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras, and St. Patrick’s Day is still an agonizing month away. Luckily, there will always be good food and drinks to get us through the least interesting time of the year.
This week in gluttony, we’ve got some gluten-free action, wine tastings for the sake of art and community improvement, as well as a brewery dinner that just happens to include some of Dallas’ best chefs. That’s not too bad for February, right?
Tuesday, February 19
Gluten-free Dishcrawl
Just one week after its last showing, Dishcrawl is back with a gluten-free jaunt through Uptown, including a stop at Tu-Lu’s Gluten-Free Bakery for a dessert trio. And if you’re not gluten-free, there will be bread available, if you really can’t go one meal without a loaf. The crawl begins at 7 pm and is $45 per person.
Thursday, February 21
Wine, Women and Art at Domaine Wine Company
The Dallas Woman’s Forum is teaming up with Domaine Wine Company to showcase wine-themed artwork by Jeanette Korab. The event includes wine and champagne tastings and cheese pairings by Scardello. Proceeds from wine and art sales benefit the Dallas Woman’s Forum. The free event takes place 5:30-7 pm.
Friday, February 22
National Margarita Day at Blue Goose Cantinas
Friday is National Margarita Day, which is totally a thing, so Blue Goose Cantina is offering frozen house margaritas for $2 all day at all five locations. That’s the kind of deal you usually only find in college towns, so sip on a bit of Dallas history and relax.
Saturday, February 23
Cooking Class at NOSH Dallas
Get your Middle Eastern apron on with a cooking class beginning at 10 am that also includes lunch with wine pairings — because wine is best appreciated before noon on Saturday. The class and lunch cost $85. Reservations are required.
Sunday, February 24
Oscar Watch Party at the People's Last Stand
The People’s Last Stand rarely passes up the opportunity to party, and the Academy Awards is no exception. Enjoy award-worthy drink nominees like the Zero Dark & Stormy, Collins Unchained and LesMoscowMulés from 6 to 9 pm, and make a drinking game out of how many times Seth MacFarlane breaks out into song and dance.
Monday, February 25
Suds and Smoke at Deep Ellum Brewing Company
Enjoy a multichef event benefiting Foodways Texas' oral history projects in North Texas with chefs including Tim Byres (Smoke and Chicken Scratch), Justin Fourton (Pecan Lodge) and David Uygur (Lucia). The dinner begins at 6 pm and is $50 for members and $65 for non-members.
