Want Some Dim Sum
Unassuming Plano restaurant lands on list of best dim sum in America
Dallas often gets a nod in national pubs for its dining scene, but we can be particularly proud of this one. In its April issue, Travel + Leisure deemed J.S. Chen's in Plano worthy of its America's Best Dim Sum roundup.
Dim sum, in which servers wheel around carts stocked with dumplings, buns, spare ribs, rolls and other delicacies, represents a walk on the wild side for staid T+L. The magazine observes that weekend dining doesn't have to be just brunch, but one of the selling points of the dim sum at J.S. Chen's is that it's served daily, from open until close.
The restaurant is also a critical favorite, which is perhaps why it got singled out over dim sum favorites Kirin Court and Maxim.
T+L had this to say: "Multigenerational Chinese families and in-the-know locals flock to this unassuming restaurant within an Asian shopping mall. They're here for the dim sum, whether shrimp dumplings, steamed pork buns or the explosive Shanghai-style pork dumplings."
The magazine goes on to note the beef fun roll (paper-thin noodles rolled around BBQ beef) is "aptly named" and recommends finishing the meal with sweet and crispy sesame balls or mango pudding.
