Local restaurants duke it out in Taste Addison street-food challenge
Earlier this week, Taste Addison held an amuse-bouche for its mid-May festival. Taste: The Competition pitted 15 local restaurants — including Cantina Laredo, Blue Goose Cantina and Thai Star — against each other in a street-food challenge.
Each restaurant was tasked with creating a unique dish that could be carried throughout a carnival or fair. A handful of food writers were invited to judge the contest.
Although none of the dishes is required to be served at Taste Addison (May 17-19), a few of these were good enough that they ought to make an appearance.
Blue Mesa took first place overall with its chimayo market corn, while Genghis Grill placed second with a sweet and spicy steak wrap. The grilled Korean barbecue steak with spring mixed greens, onions, cilantro and bell peppers was unveiled for the first time outside of Genghis Grill’s test kitchens for the competition.
Buffalo Wild Wings took the bronze for deep fried bread pudding bites, which is exactly what it sounds like. We believe they were low calorie and definitely didn not add any blockage to our heart.
Taste Addison in Addison Circle Park begins May 17 at 6 pm. The weekend food fest includes live music from Turnpike Troubadours and Reckless Kelly, food from more than 70 local restaurants, and The Tasty Run 5K with tasting stations along the route.
