Dallas' revered Velvet Taco lines up new restaurant on the Tollway
Dallas' buzzy Velvet Taco continues its master plan of expansion with a new location now on the books. The upscale taqueria chain will open a location at 15110 N. Dallas Pkwy., at the northeast corner of Belt Line Road, with an opening set for fall.
Velvet Taco honcho Clay Dover says that the location is one of several happening in 2019, including one in Plano and another at Buckhead, Atlanta in June.
"We are very excited to continue the expansion of Velvet Taco, both in DFW and across the country, with this location in Addison," he says.
The building it's going into is called Tollway Place, an office building on the north side of Belt Line Road directly across from Village on the Parkway, home to Whole Foods Market and a panoply of eateries.
Recently purchased by a company called Triten Real Estate Partners, Tollway Place is a six-story, 90,795-square-foot building with structured parking, and a renovation is underway. Triten's plans for the building include putting Velvet Taco on the ground floor with an outdoor patio that Triten partner Paul Marin says will give the property more of the walkability that has become so desirable these days.
"We're repositioning Tollway Place into a Class A jewel box, and Velvet Taco will bring added curb appeal, creating a walkable amenity for tenants along with landscaping, benches, green space, and outdoor patio seating," Marin says.
The street address is officially Dallas, with the dividing line between Dallas and Addison being the Tollway itself. South of Belt Line, there's a sneaky little Dallas inset on the map in which Dallas has the land all the way west to Inwood Road. Crafty Dallas managed to seize that prized wedge.
But this is really about Addison.
"Addison is the perfect community to bring our nontraditional, chef-driven tacos to, and the location provides great visibility from the Dallas North Tollway," Dover says.
