This Week in Gluttony
These are the 6 best food and drink events in Dallas this week
You get the first part of the week to recover from your Cinco de Mayo-induced hangover. But Dallas is back on the food-and-drink scene this weekend. There's an artsy wine walk, a couple of boozy events, and a cupcake fundraiser for a sweet cause. And of course, don't forget your dear mother on her big day.
Thursday, May 9
Downtown Plano Art & Wine Walk at Downtown Plano Arts District
Enjoy samplings of select wines around the neighborhood while listening to live music, local art, and a little shopping. Attendees receive a commemorative glass, tasting card, and wine guide. There are approximately 20 wine stops, with each location serving a different wine. Tickets begin at $12, and the event, themed "Flower Power," kicks off at 5 pm.
Chocolate Cheese and Bubbles at Scardello Artisan Cheese
What more can be said about three of life's greatest pleasures? Join Scardello as they explore chocolate, cheese, and bubbly individually, and try out some interesting pairings. Tickets are $40, and the class starts at 7 pm.
Friday, May 10
Boozy Bee Spelling Competition at Wheelhouse
Dallas wordsmiths have the chance to showcase their talents with the five-week, late-night, adults-only spelling bee. The last speller standing each night receives a $100 gift card toward their bar tab that night. The top three finishers each week advance to the championship finals on May 31 for a chance to win a private beer dinner for six at Wheelhouse (valued at $500) and the taste of sweet victory. Interested participants should show up at 9 pm.
Saturday, May 11
Cupcakes for a Cause at University Park United Methodist Church
Bakeries all over Dallas-Fort Worth bring their best cupcakes while guests enjoy cupcake-eating contests, Zorb ball racing, face painting, and more. All proceeds from the event go to support LEAP Global Missions, a Dallas-based nonprofit organization that provides free specialized surgical and medical care to children living in impoverished regions around the world. Tickets are $15, and the event is from 11 am to 2 pm.
Hooch & Pooch at Trinity River Arts Center
This fun event features specialty cocktails, food, dancing, live entertainment, raffle, silent auction, and a chance to hang with "the coolest folks in Dallas." Attendees are asked to dress in "high school dance attire" — from whichever decade you know best. Tickets start at $40, and the event starts at 8 pm.
