New frozen yogurt shop debuts in Lakewood center in time for summer
Fro-yo comes to Lakewood with the opening of Yogurtland, in a storefront at Lakewood Shopping Center, at 1910 Abrams Rd.
Actually, fro-yo was already there, since the prior tenant at this location was a branch of Yumilicious, the very similar self-serve frozen yogurt chain based in Dallas. So this is more of a return.
Yogurtland was founded in Fullerton, California, 11 years ago as one of the first self-serve frozen yogurt concepts, where customers can help themselves to any flavor from a row of dispensers.
Frozen yogurt may feel like a distant memory in these post rolled-ice-cream times, but there are still plenty of shops to go around, with 11 Yogurtland locations in DFW, including the new one in Lakewood.
They have a potential library of more than 200 flavors, extending from everyday options like vanilla to more exotic options, such as Rocket Pop Sorbet and Dragon Passion Tart. They also offer no sugar added and gluten-free options.
The shop in Lakewood has eight dispensers, with two flavors to each. Five of the flavors are soft-serve ice cream, and two are sorbets. Opening flavors include plain tart, vanilla, chocolate, Dutch chocolate, cheesecake, strawberry, blueberry lavender, and birthday cake.
A newish thing Yogurtland is offering is shakes, in two flavors, vanilla and cold brew coffee. These are also self-serve and can be dispensed directly from their frozen yogurt machines into a 12-ounce cup.
