Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is coming to Dallas' Deep Ellum

UPDATE 10-1-2020: The location in Deep Ellum opened on September 28.
------------------------------
Famous Memphis chicken chain Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, known for its signature spicy coating, will open a location in Dallas, specifically in Deep Ellum.
A representative from the company confirmed that the restaurant will open at 2904 Commerce St., in mid- to late-summer.
This will be the second location in North Texas, following the chain's debut in Fort Worth, where a Gus's opened in 2016. The same franchise group that owns the Fort Worth location is opening the Deep Ellum restaurant as wel. There are also locations in Austin and Houston.
Gus's has a cult following for its spicy, crispy chicken — spicy but milder than the searing heat of Nashville-style hot chicken — with a thin, crispy batter that adheres well.
Gus's Fried Chicken was founded in 1953 by the Bonner family in Mason, Tennessee, and they still run that original location.
The chicken is a family recipe created by Vernon "Gus" Bonner, who inherited it from his parents Napoleon and Maggie. He passed away in 2007, but the batter is still a family secret.
In addition to chicken known for its crunchy bronze crust, the menu also features sides such as potato salad and coleslaw, and housemade pies. It'll stay open later on weekend evenings, as befits the neighborhood's nightlife.
A new owner came aboard in February with plans to open eight branches across the country, including Atlanta, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Knoxville, Kansas City, Kansas, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
The building at 2904 Commerce St., at the corner of Malcolm X Boulevard, is a former Humble gas station that was built in 1950.
Deep Ellum does not lack for fried chicken, with respected purveyors that include Brick & Bones and Pecan Lodge.
