New Tex-Mex restaurant on Dallas' Henderson Ave tries COVID-19 rebound

A prominent restaurant address on Henderson Avenue has a new tenant: Uno Mas is a Tex-Mex spot that opened right before COVID-19, then closed.
According to a release, it is now open again, with margaritas, weeknight specials, and the obligatory takeout.
The concept is owned by HattenLuke Hospitality Group, which consists of Brandon Luke, Blakely Luke, and chef Ronald Von Hatten, who also co-own Smithy next door and the Woolworth in downtown Dallas.
It takes over the space at 2929 Henderson Ave. previously occupied by Sissy's Southern Kitchen and Bar, which was said to be in pretty bad disrepair when Sissy's closed in 2017. Apparently HattenLuke either got the landlord to ante up some remodeling dough or took it on themselves.
Von Hatten, who previously was corporate chef at Landry's, Inc., and co-owns RJ Mexican Cuisine in the West End, has created a menu of traditional Tex-Mex with a twist.
Unique dishes include:
- Queso Fundido Burger with ground chuck, chorizo, chipotle peppers, topped with cactus rajas
- Aguachile with marinated shrimp, cucumber, tomatillo, lime, red onion, peppers, guacamole, and tostada chips
- Cauliflower fajitas
There are also fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, soups and salads. Salsas, tortillas, and sauces are made in house.
Cocktails inclue a "skinny" frozen margarita with 168 calories. To go offerings include family meals and margarita kits
Uno Mas is following CDC and Texas Department of Health guidelines for reopening restaurants, including staff wearing masks and gloves, health check-ins before every shift, thorough cleaning procedures, menu sanitization after every use, and six-foot social distancing inside and on the patio.
