This Week in Gluttony seems a little quiet, but we presume that’s because Dallasites are firing up the grills; icing down some beers; and dragging out some red, white and blue. For those who do not delight in such Fourth of July traditions, these events might satisfy.
Tuesday, June 30
Grand Opening Celebration at Val’s Cheesecakes
Join Val’s Cheesecakes as it celebrates the opening of its first brick-and-mortar location. Enjoy food from Easy Slider and La Popular at Peak & Elm, beverages from next-door neighbor Grapevine Bar, and, of course, cheesecakes. The party lasts from 6-9 pm.

Matt’s Mug Coffee School at Whole Foods Preston Forest
Coffee guru Matt Bowles is teaching a series of coffee classes this summer; at this one, learn the best tools and techniques for bringing out coffee flavor with pour-over methods. Tasting is, of course, included in the $5 ticket price. Class starts at 6 pm.

Fourth of July Weekend Specials at Capitol Pub
All weekend get $2 Lone Star, Pabst Blue Ribbon, hot dogs and corn dogs. DJ Kwasar kicks off the holiday at 10 pm on Friday.
Harvest Festival Kickoff Bash at Messina Hof Winery
This celebration — the start of the two-month-long festival taking place across all three Messina Hof locations — features wine, food trucks, artists and merchants, scavenger hunt, face painting, and the famous grape stomp competition. Teams of two to four people can compete in the grape stomping for $50 per team. Admission is free from noon-6 pm.
Holiday Sushi Specials at Steel Restaurant & Lounge

Party by the Pool at BarBelmont
Hang poolside and watch the Fair Park fireworks display at the Belmont Hotel. Listen to tunes spun by DJ David Gover with Spinster Records and nosh on street tacos, chips and salsa, and popsicles. Drink specials include $6 specialty cocktails, $5 house wine by the glass and $2.50 Lone Star beer. Chairs and blankets are welcome. Cover charge is $20; food and bevs are extra. Seventh Annual Brass Knuckle Corn Dog Beatdown at Libertine Bar
Can you eat more than any of your friends? Are you ready to party with people who don’t play around when it comes to corn dogs? It is free to sign up for the competition, and the winner gets a $100 gift certificate. Second place gets a $50 gift certificate; third place wins $25 in quarters. Fun starts at 3 pm.

Sunday Supper at CBD Provisions
This is the kickoff to a weekly series that runs through August 2, and each Sunday features a different three-course menu. Dishes range from charred romaine Caesar salad to Gulf fish fry to coconut layer cake.
