    This Week in Gluttony

Tequila, beer and wine top the best food and drink events in Dallas

    Jonathan Rienstra
    Jul 23, 2013 | 6:00 am

It’s all about wine this week in gluttony, but there’s still variety afoot. You can go for a wine tasting and help out an animal shelter, test your palette against Texas and world-wide Roussanes or even have some fish with your wine.

But if your wine is more of the boxed variety, we’ve got a beer dinner at the British Beverage Co. and a tequila dinner that also has Mexican food. Just remember — one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.

    Tuesday, July 23

BBC Dinner With Boulevard Brewing Co.
The British Beverage Company and Kansas City’s Boulevard Brewing Co. team up for a four-course beer dinner beginning at 6:30. Pairings include the Sixth Glass with charcuterie and cheese plate, and Collaboration No. 3 Stingo with jalapeño-and-cilantro-crusted salmon. Seats are $40 per person and can be reserved at 214-922-8220.

    Wednesday, July 24

    Libertine Belgian Beer Dinner
The Libertine keeps the Belgian beer ball rolling with a five-course meal featuring American Belgians beginning at 7 pm. Chef Rosanne Dileo and cicerone Mate Hartai present pairings such as buckwheat crepe with brandade de morue with Adelbert’s Flyin’ Monks Oak Aged Dubbel, and lamb tartiflette with smoked bacon and reblochon cheese with Lakewood La Dame du Loc. Reservations are $55 per person and can be made at 214-824-7900.

    Thursday, July 25

Lazaranda Tequila Dinner with Don Julio
Lazaranda and chef Antonio Marquez offer a four-course tequila dinner beginning at 7 pm. Chef Marquez creates dishes such as sope with spicy sautéed shrimp and grilled Chilean sea bass with creamy potato and pasilla purée with lobster and vanilla sauce, and all are paired with Don Julio tequila or margaritas. Reservations are $34.95 and can be made at 972-866-8900.

    Saturday, July 27

    Third Annual Merlot 4 Mutts
Enjoy wine and a silent auction at the Wine Therapist from 3 to 5 pm and help raise money for Habitat 4 Paws, a rescue organization for dogs and cats. For $30, you receive two glasses of wine and small bites while bidding at the auction. All proceeds go to helping Habitat 4 Paws build a permanent rescue shelter. Spots can be reserved at 214-676-6946.

    Sunday, July 28

Texas vs. The World Wine Tasting at Calais Winery
See how Texas’ Roussanes stack up against the rest of the world with a Gusto tasting at Calais Winery. In a blind taste test, guests compare Roussanes from Texas wineries against bottles from across the country and around the world. Gusto sommeliers are on hand to lead the tastings, and the winner is crowned by the crowd. Tickets are $40 per person or $35 each for two or more. The event begins at 7:30 pm, and tickets can be purchased online.

    Monday, July 29

Sea Breeze Fish Market & Grill Wine Dinner
Sea Breeze Fish Market in Plano hosts a five-course fish and wine dinner beginning at 7 pm. Dishes include coriander-dusted sea scallops with heirloom tomato and chive vinaigrette paired with Milbrandt Riesling from Washington State, and crispy skin roasted wild king salmon with crème fraiche, roasted beets and fingerling potatoes paired with Ventisquero Queulat Carmenere Gran Reserva from Chile. Reservations are $55 per person and can be made at 972-473-2722.

Lazaranda prepares a four-course meal to pair with Don Julio tequilas and margaritas on July 25.

A Dallas pie company has a new boss: Emporium Pies, a small chain of pie shops founded in 2012, has been acquired by White Rhino Coffee, the Dallas-born coffee company known for its community-driven cafés and craft-focused approach.

Emporium Pie owners and sisters Landon Perdue, Jen Abohosh, and Addie Roberts say in a release that the transition reflects a natural alignment in values.

"Part of our shared mission is hospitality and giving people a reason to celebrate," Roberts says. "We love the team, who I’ll continue working alongside, and I’m excited for this next chapter together. There’s something about dessert that brings people joy in a way nothing else can, and we’re thrilled to see that legacy carried forward."

Emporium began as a small operation selling pies from a 1930s bungalow in Bishop Arts. A second location opened in McKinney in 2013, followed by Deep Ellum which opened in 2016, and Fort Worth which opened in 2021, for a total of four shops. This is the second time the chain has changed hands; the original founders sold the company in 2022.

White Rhino was founded in 2007 and currently has 12 locations, the most recent being a location at Cypress Waters, inside a conference room, which opened in 2025.

“Emporium Pies has built an extraordinary legacy,” said Sara Escamilla, CEO of White Rhino Coffee. “Their products are consistently excellent, impeccably crafted, and beloved. Every pie is made with the highest quality ingredients. To be able to support and grow a concept of this caliber is an honor.”

The bakers and Addie Roberts will remain on staff, ensuring that the recipes remain unchanged. While the businesses will operate as usual for now, White Rhino Coffee plans to explore expanding Emporium Pies’ footprint across the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

They'll also introduce collaborations and menu integrations such as signature pie-and-coffee pairings.

“For now, it simply means coffee and pie - two of life’s best comforts - can be enjoyed across both brands,” Escamilla says.
