All-day breakfast restaurant changes brunch game for Oak Lawn Dallas

The massively popular brunch chain Snooze an A.M. Eatery is bringing its creative breakfast twists to its most central location in Dallas yet: Oak Lawn.

The Denver-based chain, which made its Dallas debut in Addison in June, will open a restaurant at 3211 Oak Lawn Ave, near the intersection of Cedar Springs Road, in what was previously Hypnotic Sushi, which had been closed for some time.

A spokesperson confirms that the restaurant will open in late 2018 or early 2019.

Founded in Denver in 2006, Snooze is a legend on the breakfast and brunch front, with its culinary innovation, energetic atmosphere, and friendly service. They've been colonizing Texas, first entering the state in 2016 with a branch in Austin.

They've since opened locations in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, where they've been universally met with lines out the door.

Oak Lawn joins two other locations in the works for the Dallas area: Walnut Hill Lane and US-75, which will open in fall 2018; and at the Left Bank mixed-use development in Fort Worth.

Signature dishes include pineapple upside-down pancakes, breakfast pot pie, and a "chile verde Benny" with green chili-sauced tortillas, pulled pork or barbacoa-style beef, poached eggs, and green chili hollandaise. They're big into benedicts with six options. In a fun twist, you can order a benedict duo or a flight of three pancakes in different flavors.

Their selection of "morning cocktails" includes cocktails made with coffee, and Bloody Marys such as the one with bacon-infused Cyrus Noble Bourbon and house bloody mix.

In addition to local beers on tap, there's a signature Snooze Sparkling, which figures in mimosa-style cocktails such as the Palomimosa and the English Garden.

They're also environmentally proactive, diverting a high percentage of their waste via composting, using low flow water fixtures, high efficiency lighting, and energy star rated appliances.

They rotate in specials and seasonal items regularly, most recently in June when they debuted the "sunburst pancake" made from a buttermilk lemon poppyseed batter topped with lemon anglaise, blackberries, citrus mascarpone, and toasted almonds; and the smashed avocado benny, an English muffin topped with smashed avocado & green chili, parmesan cheese, tomatoes, poached eggs, and smoked cheddar hollandaise.

Starbucks to close Dallas office and cut jobs as part of restructuring

Starbucks will close some U.S. offices, including one in Dallas, and will lay off 300 corporate employees and as part of its ongoing turnaround, the company said Friday, May 15.

No coffeehouse employees are affected, the company said. The cuts will impact employees in support functions like marketing, human resources and supply chain management. No international employees are affected for now, but Starbucks said it is also reviewing its corporate structure outside the U.S.

In addition to the Dallas office, at 12750 Merit Dr., Starbucks said it’s also closing underused offices in Atlanta, Chicago, and other cities. The Seattle-based company recently announced that it's opening a corporate office in Nashville, Tennessee, that will employ up to 2,000 people within five years.

Starbucks expects to the moves to result in $400 million in restructuring charges, including $120 million in employee separation benefits.

Starbucks has been trying to reduce costs and complexity under Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol, who joined the company in 2024. Last year, the company laid off 2,000 corporate employees and closed hundreds of stores in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Niccol said last month that the simplified structure is helping the company innovate more quickly. Starbucks is also investing in its remaining stores to improve customers' experience. It plans to redesign 1,000 U.S. stores this year to give them a cozier, more comfortable feel, and it's also hiring baristas to ensure faster service during busy times.

The efforts appear to be paying off. In the January-March period, Starbucks said its U.S. same-store sales, or sales at locations open at least a year, jumped 7%. Niccol called the quarter “the turn in our turnaround.”

“Our focus now is on sustaining our momentum and making our results repeatable and durable, all while delivering a healthy cost structure that supports profitable growth,” Niccol said during a conference call with investors. “It’s how we turn progress into consistent results.”
