Get More Growlers
Carrollton craft beer hot spot Lone Star Beverages expands with new growler bar
Carrollton liquor store LoneStar Beverages is already known across Dallas-Fort Worth as one of the key destinations to find interesting craft beers. Now it will expand into growler territory, with a new beer spot that'll make it easier to get rare brews to go.
Lone Star Taps & Caps will open this fall in Lewisville, just off Highway 121 and Josey Lane, right near Target and across from Top Golf. There will be 50 different taps of craft beers and ciders from all over the world. Taps & Caps will be among the first retail establishments to offer growlers to go north of highway 635.
Avid fans of craft beer, father and son Sam and Rick Ali were ahead of the craft beer curve when they opened Lone Star Beverages in Carrollton eight years ago. Since 2006, they've specialized in offering local, national and international craft beers, some hard-to-find.
But the duo wanted to extend their reach with a unique shop that will feature craft beer onsite or to go: in growlers, pints, flights, packaged beer and more. In addition to craft beers on tap, the new spot will have more than 500 unique cold cans and bottles to choose from, allowing patrons to create their own personalized beer package.
Rick says it's a construction going into a new development at Castle Hills.
"We’ve been wanting to do it for a long time. We were just looking for the right location," he says. "With the growlers, we'll focus on breweries like Peticolas that don’t bottle what they brew. We'll include anything available in the U.S. that we get available in Texas. But I won't focus only on beers from Texas."
The timetable: "The fall, for sure," he says. "Realistically, it'll probably be the end of October or November."
