Happy Hours
Where to drink in Dallas right now: 5 best new happy hours for September
This edition of the best new happy hours in Dallas is filled to the brim with fantastic cocktails.
These are not merely your sad and desperate house well drinks. (Well, there are some of those, too, if you must.) Instead, these are Texas-themed, or tiki-themed, or dosed with mezcal, or dusted with matcha.
Some are available for a limited time, so do not delay. Here is where to drink in September:
Billy Can Can
Victory Park saloon has introduced a Texas-themed happy hour with half price on Texas wines by the glass or bottle; Texas beer on draught, in bottle or can; and Texas spirits (with some exceptions). There is also happy-hour pricing on rotating and seasonal appetizers, such as $3 oyster sliders, $8 smoked fish dip, or $1 Gulf oysters in season. Duros, their puffy cracker seasoned with lime and chile, are complimentary; outside of happy hour, those cost $5. Hours: Monday-Friday 5-7 pm.
El Rincon
Authentic Mexican restaurant in downtown Carrollton has plentiful happy hour specials including house margaritas, sangria 'ritas, and wines by the glass, all for $5. Well cocktails and bottled beers are $4. Draft beer is $3, and you get $2 off all appetizers. Hours: Sunday-Monday all day, Tuesday-Friday 3-7 pm, and Saturday 7-10 pm. Thursdays have an extra bonus with $4 house margaritas & $3 draft beers all day.
Jettison
Cocktail bar at Houndstooth Coffee in Sylan Thirty serves its House Special drinks — favorites such as the Matcha Mucho with matcha powder and mezcal, and the signature Red-Headed Oaxacan with tequila and mezcal — for $8. On Tuesdays, you get $3 off snack boards with meat, cheese, or veggie, and on Wednesdays, you get half off mezcal shots and $2 tamales. They also have some cool tiki drinks through September, although those are regular price so forget we said anything about them. Hours: 4-6 pm daily.
Smithy
Henderson Avenue restaurant-bar from the owners of the Woolworth is now open for lunch and happy hour, which is why we are here today. Craft cocktails are $8. House red or white wine is $5. You get $1 off local draft and bottled beer (except Nitro beers), and house spirits or mixed cocktails are $5. The redesigned space now has an outdoor patio. Hours: Tuesday-Friday 11 am-7 pm.
Trick Pony
The innovative cocktail bar, located within Harlow MXM in Deep Ellum, has rolled out an Endless Summer theme, with surf-inspired cocktails rife with surfer slang such as The Cutback, a low-ABV cocktail with Amaro, Kina L’Aero D’Or, dry vermouth, grapefruit tonic, and Topo Chico. The Agave Temptress sounds good with cognac, mezcal, Campari, cinnamon, citrus, and strawberry. Amazingly, you can get these and more during happy hour for $5. Hours: Tuesday-Friday 5-7 pm, Sunday 4 pm-2 am.
