Artisan restaurant adds affordable, casual new eats to Dallas Arts District

A new eatery and market is dishing casual fare in Dallas' Arts District. Called The Artisan, it's a new restaurant concept at KPMG Plaza at Hall Arts, located on the Texas Sculpture Walk, where it joins Flora Street Cafe and Musume, the Asian-fusion restaurant.
It's serving a variety of hot and cold offerings daily at a walk-up dining counter with a market-style service that offers fast and casual dining, but in an upscale, modern setting.
Signature dishes include sofrito-marinated salmon, shrimp scampi with linguine, pecan-smoked beef brisket, carne asada street tacos, and pad Thai chicken sauté. Do you need the sauté there? Can't it be just pad Thai chicken?
The chef’s counter is surrounded by refrigerated and hot display cases filled with things like prosciutto and pear flatbread with Gorgonzola cheese and balsamic; muffuletta panini; croque Monsieur; and composed salads.
Sides include smoked cheddar mac and cheese, potato au gratin, broccolini, and sautéed kernel corn with cotija. These are seasonal and change regularly.
Other items include packaged cold entrees, sandwiches, salads, pastries, and desserts, available in grab-and-go cases along with market items, snacks, and unique bottled beverages.
The Artisan Terrace is on the upper level. It offers seating on the mezzanine with a view of the Texas Sculpture Walk and shaded seating overlooking the Dallas Arts District.
The Artisan Terrace Bar will be open Friday and Saturday evenings and will offer cocktails such as The Artisan Martini made with strawberries and balsamic, a jalapeño-cilantro mule, raspberry margarita, cucumber collins, vanilla old-fashioned, wine, and local and craft beer.
There's a whole catering division with corporate packages and event design for on-site and off-site gatherings. Two spaces on-site include The Artisan Terrace and The Texas Sculpture Walk.
Executive chef is Jones Reeder. Founder is John Gilbert, owner of G Texas Custom Catering.
The Artisan will celebrate a grand opening on September 22 from 6-10 pm with food, cocktails and live music.
