    Thursday, December 29

Enthusiasts' Faves Class at Scardello Artisan Cheese
Scardello cheese enthusiasts pick their favorite cheeses and wines for a night of tasting fun and surprises. Tickets are $40, and the class begins at 7 pm. If you want to sit with other attendees, put their names in the special instructions section during checkout. If the event is sold out, call 214-219-1300 to get on the waiting list.

    Saturday, December 31

Boho-A-Go-Go Dance Party at Midnight Rambler
Guests can reserve a table for New Year's Eve and enjoy tableside punch service, Perrier Jouet champagne, and a selection of appetizers while grooving to tunes from DJs Jeff Paul and Gabe Mendoza. Entrance fee is $25 and includes a free champagne toast and prizes for best-dressed and best dancing.

Eastwood's Bar New Year's Eve Party
Dubbed the "living room of Uptown," this cozy bar is hosting its second annual New Year's Eve party, featuring complimentary light bites from 8-10 pm, a champagne toast at midnight, and live music from 10 pm until 2 am. Admission is free; however, items from the elevated bar menu are available for purchase.

New Year's Eve Brewery Tour at Community Beer Company
After a brief holiday hiatus, Dallas' favorite brew tour is back in business just in time for this fun holiday. Admission includes three drink tokens and access to live music, food trucks, and one of two tours happening at 3 and 4 pm. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door, and the festivities last from 2-5 pm.

New Year's Eve Dinner Party at Julia Pearl
Executive chef Jermaine Brown and his team have created a special menu for the occasion, and to keep everyone entertained between courses and into the wee hours, the restaurant is bringing in local band Fingerprints for a live set. The drinks flow all night, but stick around for a champagne toast when the clock strikes midnight. Tickets are $50, and the dinner party is set to last from 8 pm to 1 am.

For a complete list of the best places to enjoy New Year's Eve dinner, go here.

    Sunday, January 1

New Year's Day Party at Truck Yard
Fight your hangover and put a smile back on your face with $20 Bloody Mary pitchers and mimosa buckets — the latter coming with one bottle of bubbly and your choice of two fresh juices from a selection of guava, orange, blood orange, grapefruit, and pomegranate. To keep you warm, spiked hot chocolate, spiced apple cider, and hot toddies will also be available, all priced at just $8 each. Or keep it simple with $4 domestic beers and wells. This cocktail-fueled fiesta lasts from 11 am to midnight.

    Monday, January 2

Dallas-based Cru Food and Wine Bar closes location in Allen

A revered neighborhood wine bar in Allen has poured its last glass: Cru Food and Wine Bar closed its location at 842 Watters Creek Blvd. in Watters Creek Village after 16 years.

Cru is the cosmopolitan wine bar chain founded by Patrick Colombo, veteran Dallas restaurateur and CEO of Restaurant Works (Princi Italia, Nick & Sam’s). He opened the first location in the West Village shopping center in Dallas in 2002 with a formula of 30 wines by the glass and 300 bottles from around the world, with a casual menu of food inspired by the Napa Valley.

A second location opened in Plano in 2004. Allen opened in 2008, and a third opened in Fort Worth in 2017.

According to Colombo, their lease at Watters Creek ended in January.

"A new landlord took over, and we were unable to reach an agreement," he says.

The wine bar was a reliable destination, open for lunch, dinner, and brunch, with sharable plates, sandwiches, and wood-fired pizzas. They also hosted events such as wine tastings and live music nights.

The staff at Allen found jobs at other locations under Restaurant Works' portfolio, including Cru and Princi Italia, including chef Terry Vila, who is now executive chef at the Legacy West location.

After all their years in Allen, they built a strong following but are seeing some regulars at their Plano location, Colombo says.
