Bad Chicken wings onto Dallas' Ross Avenue with late-night fried chicken
A new chicken spot has landed near Dallas Greenville Avenue: Bad Chicken, a locally-owned fast-casual chicken concept featuring wings, nuggets, and chicken sandwiches, is now open at 5014 Ross Ave.
The location replaces the original Bad Chicken in Preston Center which has closed, and will serve as Bad Chicken's new HQ. The Ross Avenue spot, just south of Henderson Avenue, was previously Back Home Barbecue and before that, a quirky Chinese restaurant for many years.
The 2,800-square-foot space features indoor seating for 44 and patio seating for 40. It features a large family-friendly patio, arcade area in the dining room, revamped menu, alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, cocktails), and a drive-thru. It even has a wall of greenery with a neon sign that says "Be bad. Be very bad."
Owner Bobby Shuey says, “We’re thrilled to offer a new, yet familiar experience at Bad Chicken. We’ll still have customers’ same delicious favorites but with some new amazing additions from Chef Tim. It’s also even more convenient to grab Bad Chicken quickly with our drive thru open all day and into late-night.”
The wings are smoked and tossed in sauces or dry rubs such as sweet pepper jelly, bang bang, buffalo atomic, Texas dust, and white bbq. Nuggets are available with the same sauce options and can be ordered grilled or fried.
A “Bomb Bowl” piles chicken on top of your choice of curly fries, sweet potato fries, or mac & cheese and topped with sauces in flavors such as sweet Thai, Buffalo, and honey habanero.
Other options include fried chicken sandwich; BBQ Salad with lettuce, avocado, corn, and tortilla strips; a smashburger; and chicken tacos.
A large menu of desserts made in-house includes Cheesecake Egg Rolls with blueberry compote, Churro Donut Holes, Chocolate Mousse Cup, Heavenly Chocolate Cookie, Lemon Ice Box Pie, and Creme Brulee.
Another new addition is the drink menu with beer, wine and cocktails which you can even order at their drive-thru. Frozen cocktails include Frozen Jack & Coke, Frozen Lemonade with vodka, and Frozen Margarita. Other drink standouts include the Blueberry Lemonade Margarita, and Henny-Rita - margarita made with Hennessy.
Shuey and Chef Tim Woehr opened the test kitchen location of Bad Chicken in November 2022 with the intention of having a wing restaurant in Dallas that could quickly deliver high quality wings with a wide selection of sauces.
Saving the best for last, they keep late late hours: The dining room, patio, and drive-thru are open Sunday-Thursday from 10 am - 2 am and Friday-Saturday from 10 am - 3 am.
