Dallas bakery Cake Bar to leave Trinity Groves for new digs after 10 years
An acclaimed Dallas bakery is leaving Trinity Groves after 10 years: Cake Bar, which was among the first round of restaurants at the West Dallas incubator complex, will move to a new location in the Medical District, in a center that's slightly off the beaten path at 2629 N. Stemmons Fwy. # 101.
Owner Tracy German says she's relocating to get a larger space.
She opened Cake Bar in Trinity Groves in 2014, after selling cakes out of her house for nearly 14 years. Since then, they’ve also opened a vending stand in the food hall at DFW Airport’s F terminal.
At 1,650 square feet, the new location will be about double the size of the current space and allow German to provide more seating for customers. The new space will allow for about 22 indoor seats and six on the outdoor patio.
It’s a response to customer demand, as she often gets requests for more seats and has to turn away large parties.
“We knew we wanted a little bit more space and a little different configuration to get more people in,” she says.
She also plans to install a trendy, Instagram-able photo wall to make the space more of a destination spot for people to hang out. Otherwise, the new space will look similar to the current Trinity Groves location, with the same, signature bright blue color scheme.
Changes to the business will be purely cosmetic — German says she currently doesn’t have any plans to alter the cake shop’s menu or production.
Cake Bar specializes in cakes in a rainbow variety of flavors, including her signature strawberry cake, plus flavors such as red velvet, Key lime, pina colada, Italian cream, and caramel. Cakes are available by the slice, or in five-inch, eight-inch or half-sheet sizes. The shop also sells cupcakes, cookies, and pound cakes.
German has won much acclaim for her cakes including two CultureMap Tastemaker Award nominations for Best Pastry Chef in 2021 and again in 2023.
The shop's departure represents a big loss for Trinity Groves, where Cake Bar has been one of the biggest success stories since the center debuted in 2013.
German says she will close the Trinity Groves storefront on March 17, and hopes to be open at the new location on March 21.
“I’m excited because it’s a new venture,” she says. “We’ve been here 10 years, and it has truly been a blessing. Dallas has really supported us.”
