A Texas-sized barbecue cookout will take place in the middle of downtown Dallas this week. Also on the list: learn about the origins of caviar with a master class and tasting, celebrate Bastille Day with week-long menu specials, and partake in authentic Cambodian and Southeastern Asian cuisine at a two-day street food festival.

Tuesday, July 15

Caviar Tasting Master Class at Nuri Steakhouse
This guided tasting of four caviar varieties will be paired with chilled pours of champagne, rosé, and premium caviar vodka. Learn the origins, textures, and flavor profiles of each caviar along with how to properly taste the delicacy. Class is $175 plus gratuity, and begins at 5:30 pm.

Bastille Week at Restaurant Beatrice
Contemporary Cajun cuisine destination in Oak Cliff will mark Bastille Day with a week-long celebration. A special French-inspired menu will be available Tuesday-Sunday featuring starters like bouillabaisse and house gougeres, entrees including pork normande and braised oxtails, along with nicoise salad and sides like red bean cassoulet. Save room for chocolate eclairs and seasonal fruit Napolean. Reservations start at 5 pm daily.

Spanish Wine Dinner at Café Momentum
Chef Aaron Collins will take guests on a tour of Spanish flavors paired with bold Spanish reds and crisp whites. Standout menu items include spiced lamb chops and Basque-style cheesecake with macerated fruit. The five-course dinner is $109 plus tax, gratuity, and service charge, and begins at 6 pm.

Annual Street Food Festival at The Cambodian Buddhist Temple of Dallas
Two-day street food fundraiser will feature authentic dishes of Cambodia and Southeast Asia from multiple vendors, include the Buddhist Temple of Dallas. Admission is free and hours are Saturday 10 am–10 pm and Sunday 10 am–3 pm.

Farm to Flame at Omni Dallas Hotel
This open-fire dining event in the middle of downtown Dallas will feature a multi-course barbecue feast highlighting Texas ingredients. The $125 ticket plus gratuity includes two cocktails, live acoustic music, and a custom spice rub to take home. The event begins at 6 pm.

Rombauer Tasting Happy Hour at Crown Block
Sky-high fine dining destination atop Reunion Tower will host a happy hour featuring Rombauer wines. Varietals will include chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, and pinot noir, each paired with small plates including tempura rock shrimp, charcuterie, and Wagyu croquettes. The tasting is $40 plus tax and gratuity, and begins at 5 pm.

Grocery giant Tom Thumb to open newest store in Dallas-Fort Worth

Supermarket chain Tom Thumb is opening the doors to its newest location in Dallas-Fort Worth: A new store in Argyle will debut at 6 am Friday, March 6.

The store is located at 1046 Market Way in Argyle, a town in Denton County about 30 minutes north of DFW Airport.

According to a release, the shop will open with some fanfare all weekend long: The first 300 shoppers will receive a bag of groceries, and all shoppers will enjoy samples, specials, and in-store events throughout the day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There's even a chance to win free groceries for a year, as well as free photos with the Easter Bunny.

The new 63,000-square-foot store will include tens of thousands of items, including more than 1,000 local products, the release says. Department highlights include:

Deli / Food Service: ReadyMeals (ready-to-eat, heat, or cook); made-in-store sushi; full-service salad bar; hot line items; 400+ specialty cheeses and charcuterie selections; fried chicken; online party tray ordering with in-store pickup.
Bakery: Fresh bread baked daily; grab-and-go desserts; on-staff cake decorator; in-store fried doughnuts; Arbuckle fried pies; Christie’s cookies; Blue Bell ice cream cakes.
Produce: Hundreds of fresh items, including 200+ organic options; extensive fresh-cut fruits and vegetables prepared daily; expanded South Asian offerings.
Floral: Fresh flowers sourced globally; grab-and-go bouquets; balloon bar; FTD service; custom arrangements for weddings and special events.
Meat & Seafood: Butcher block service; USDA Choice and Prime beef; organic and grass-fed options; seafood steamed at no extra charge.
Grocery: Thousands of everyday grocery and household items; 1,000+ Texas-made products; expanded 72-foot protein section.
Wine & Beer: 1,000+ wines (including temperature-controlled selections); 80 Texas craft beers; wide selection of non-alcoholic beverages.

There's also an in-store Starbucks coffee kiosk, Pharmacy in store with drive-thru lane, and Drive-Up-N-Go grocery pick-up.

Tom Thumb is on a roll, having opened two more local stores - in Sanger and Sunnyvale - in December. Another one, in Midlothian, is expected to open in April.
