The Porch on Dallas' Henderson Ave rebounds with beer garden and bar upgrade
A Henderson Avenue staple has reopened: The Porch, which has been a fixture of the neighborhood for more than a decade, has reopened following a two-month renovation that includes the addition of a beer garden with pergola, porch swing, and a climate-controlled patio.
The Porch has also updated its menus for brunch, lunch, dinner, and late night, overseen by Coner Seargeant, directory of culinary concepts and operations for Headington Cos., which owns The Porch, and helmed by The Porch's executive chef Dalia Rivera.
Their menu keeps favorites such as the spinach parmesan dip, short rib stroganoff, and fried chicken cobb salad but adds new items as follows, some borrowed from the Wheelhouse, the Headington Cos. restaurant in Dallas' Design District:
- brisket tacos and enchiladas
- Standard Burger
- Tuna Poke Bowl
- giant pretzels
The Big Board features monthly features, which celebrate seasonal availability.
Breads are provided by Commissary, Headington Cos. downtown café and bakery, which has recently expanded its wholesale baking business.
“Our approach to food, and hospitality in general, isn’t complicated,” says Seargeant. “We want to make good food from scratch so that people will enjoy time here gathered with friends and family.”
A remodeled bar features cozy raised booths and a triptych piece by Dallas artist Kevin Todora. The bar program is overseen by award-winning mixologist Gabe Sanchez, with new innovations such as:
- low-ABV and mocktails
- spiked iced teas
- a boozy hot chocolate
In a statement, General Manager Dominique Jafari says she's most excited about the ways the renovation creates more opportunities to visit.
“From date nights at the bar, to drinks with colleagues while playing corn hole in the beer garden, to hangover brunches on the patio… there are so many options and spaces," Jafari says. "Plus, with a patio that can be enjoyed 365 days of the year, I’m ready to live up to our name and have the best porch in Dallas again."
Other Headington Companies restaurant concepts include CBD Provisions, Weekend Coffee, Sassetta, and Midnight Rambler, all at the Joule hotel, plus Commissary, and Mirador slated to reopen in the fall. They also own the Tango Room in the Design District.
