Italian inspired I Scream Gelato opens first Texas shop in Plano
A gelato concept is opening its very first location in Texas: Called I Scream Gelato, it features gelato with ingredients sourced from Italy plus other desserts, and will make its Texas debut in Plano at 5880 SH 121 #102A, with a grand opening November 15.
I Scream was founded by Nadav Abergel and Yuval Fuchs in Breckenridge, Colorado, in 2018, who were inspired by gelato they had while visiting Milano, Italy. They trained with an Italian gelato chef to devise their recipes, and the chain has since opened locations in Colorado, Florida, Alabama, and Ohio.
Gelato is the Italian style of ice cream that's denser and creamier than regular ice cream. Their other desserts include elaborate, Instagrammable milkshakes, bubble waffle cones, Belgian waffles, pancakes, crepes, and espresso drinks.
The gelato comes in a rotating menu of more than 70 flavors, from seasonal pumpkin spice to chocolate to out-of-the-box flavors like cotton candy and glazed donut.
Guests can order gelato served in a fluffy bubble waffle cone, a house-made waffle cone, on a Belgian waffle, or a stack of pancakes — one of their signatures — each served with toppings of choice from a selection that includes various chopped-up candy bars and cookies, sprinkles, mini marshmarllows, gummy bears, nuts, M&Ms, and more.
Pancakes topped with gelato is one of their "things."FB
Cone come in varieties such as matcha, red velvet, chocolate, and vanilla.
The menu also features elaborate build-your-own milkshakes, created with flavors of the day, in addition to fruit-flavored gelato smoothies and a list of espresso beverages that includes Italian affogatos – vanilla gelato topped with a shot of espresso.
They make the gelato daily, and each batch is available for no more than 24 hours. They offer samples, and each treat comes topped with a wafer cookie stamped with "I Scream Gelato." Prices are not cheap: Cones, milkshakes, and coffee drinks average $8.
They do gelato packages that can serve up to eight people including toppings and cones. Delivery is available on Uber Eats and Doordash.
The name is clever in that its inspiration comes from a American jazz novelty song, called "Ice Cream" or "I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream," that was published in 1927.
The Plano location is one of three planned in the DFW area, although the other locations are still TBD. One step at a time, people.
“We’re thrilled to introduce I Scream Gelato to the rapidly growing community of Plano,” says Plano owner and franchisee Akbar Moolji. “Focused on using fresh, high-quality ingredients from Italy to create our handcrafted desserts, we believe residents and visitors of the region will find there’s nothing quite like the authentic gelato experience I Scream Gelato provides."
