One Dallas chef, 2 restaurants named finalists in 2024 James Beard Awards
Dallas scored big in the 2024 James Beard Awards, with two chefs and one restaurant making it to finalist status on the just-released annual Restaurant and Chef Awards list.
The two finalists from Dallas were as follows:
- David Uygur, of Lucia, for Outstanding Chef
- Gemma, for Outstanding Hospitality
Texas had four other finalist nominees: Barbs-B-Q in Lockhart for Best New Restaurant, Las Ramblas in Brownsville for Oustanding Bar, and two nominees for Outstanding Restauant: Mixtli in San Antonio and Convenience West in Marfa.
Five chefs made it to finalist status in the regional Best Chef: Texas category as follows:
- Emmanuel Chavez, Tatemó (Houston)
- Christopher Cullum, Cullum’s Attaboy (San Antonio)
- Tracy Malechek-Ezekiel, Birdie’s (Austin)
- Misti Norris, Petra & the Beast (Dallas)
- Ana Liz Pulido, Ana Liz Taqueria (Mission)
The awards recognize excellence by chefs and other culinary professionals in a wide range of categories ranging from Outstanding Chef to Best New Restaurant. Winner must also have “demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive,” according to the organization’s website. The awards also include media categories that will be announced on April 30.
The Foundation will reveal its Restaurant and Chef Award winners at an awards ceremony on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
