Intriguing new wine shop-cocktail lounge hybrid makes haven in Farmers Branch
An intriguing wine shop-lounge hybrid is opening in Farmers Branch: Called Locals, it will function as a hybrid cocktail lounge and retail shop, and will open in Farmers Branch in early October.
The two-pronged concept is located at 13050 Bee St. #100 and #120, next to Red Stix, in the same buzzy Mustang Station center as Tiffany Derry's Roots Kitchen, where it intends to bring what a release calls a new dimension of nightlife and community.
It'll occupy a divided space:
- Locals Lounge will be the traditional cocktail bar, serving cocktails charcuterie boards, and light bites
- Locals Craft Beer & Fine Wine is the name of the retail market, which will sell wines and craft beer, but also be used for group events, tastings, and date nights with grab-and-go bites, 250 wines. The space will feature floor-to-ceiling windows and a large U-shaped bar with ample seating.
Their goal is to offer small-production vineyards, wine makers with integrity, and naturally-driven and organically-farmed labels, featuring allocated items, limited releases, and favorite little finds.
Owners Traci Williams, the vivacious former Farmers Branch city council member, and Robert Dye, who served as mayor, hatched the idea after realizing that it was a niche in Farmers Branch not yet filled.
"Mustang Station has restaurants from Tiffany Derry and Uno Immanivong, and a grocer in Cox Farms Market, but it did not have a place where you could buy a bottle of wine or craft beer," Williams says. "Rob and I thought it would be a valuable addition to have a cute little shop and offer our favorite wines, where people could stop in at Cox Farms for groceries and grab a bottle of wine."
They also realized that Farmers Branch did not have a standalone bar.
"You can go to restaurants, but there's no place where you’re waiting for your dinner reservation or you've had your dinner and would like a 'third place' to go next," she says. "The bar at Roots is really small, and we could see people waiting to get in and thought it would be nice to provide an elevated experience where you could wait for your table and have a glass of wine."
The lounge also provided an opportunity for those who wanted spirits, since Farmers Branch would not allow sales of bottled spirits on the retail side.
She calls it "an incredible opportunity to bring a place like Locals to Farmers Branch."
“Our mission was to create a space that serves as a haven of connection and a catalyst for friendships and shared memories, so we are eager to open our doors and invite our friends and neighbors in for a one-of-a-kind experience," she says.
