Buzzy peri peri chicken chain from Africa sets date for Dallas debut
South African fast-casual restaurant chain Nando's Peri-Peri, famous for its spicy flame-grilled chicken, is about to open its first DFW location.
The restaurant is slated to open at Village on the Parkway in Addison, at 5100 Belt Line Rd. #728, in the space previously occupied by Indian restaurant Saffron House, in mid-December.
A release actually gets more specific, with an actual date: December 11 — almost a year to the date when their arrival was first revealed. But one thing about openings and dates is that they often change.
Whatever the date, that's when they'll start serving their signature chicken on open flame along with Peri-fries, grilled corn, Brussel Sprouts with Peri Ranch, Peri Ranch Crunch salad, and Natas (Portuguese custard tart).
That's when they'll start pouring their Peach Poncha Lemonade with brandy, Red Wine Sangria, beer and South African wine.
Nando's first debuted in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1987, and is known for two things: marinated chicken that's grilled over a flame, then basted in various flavors and spice levels; and their spicy Bird’s Eye Chili Pepper.
Their technique involves marinating chicken in Peri-Peri, then basting with more Peri-Peri to the diner’s spice level of choice, before hitting the grill.
The chicken is offered in whole pieces, skewers, plates, salads, wraps, and sandwiches. Sides include fries, grilled corn-on-the-cob, mashed potatoes, and Macho Peas, a version of English-style mushy peas.
They opened their first U.S. location in Washington DC in 2008 and now have locations in DC, Maryland, Virginia, and Chicago. They made their Texas debut in Houston, where they opened in August.
The Addison location will have convertible panels that peel back to allow the interior of the restaurant to be a cohesive extension of the outdoors. A U-shaped patio will accommodate up to 90 guests and incorporates several oak trees, while the interior seats 64 and includes an intimate bar.
