13 stellar Dallas restaurants land on inaugural OpenTable Icons list

There's no denying Dallas is full of high quality restaurants and talented chefs, and now 13 locals are earning new recognition in a new list by OpenTable, the restaurant reservation site.

Called OpenTable Icons, it's a new set of ratings the site launched in July 2024, highlighting local eateries in 25 cities across the U.S. and Canada, from award-winners to trendy hotspots and all types of cuisine. Chosen restaurants must have recently earned Michelin stars, James Beard Awards or nominations, positive reviews from diners and critics, and more.

The Dallas list is a combination of fine dining establishments and international culinary experiences located across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A majority of the winners are located in Dallas, but the list also includes a Roots Southern Table - celebrity chef-owned restaurant in Farmers Branch - and Reata Restaurant, a quintessential dining destination in downtown Fort Worth.

Here is the full list of Dallas Icons:

• Al Biernat's, a steakhouse in Dallas' Turtle Creek/Oak Lawn neighborhood
• José, a contemporary Mexican restaurant in Park Cities
• Mister Charles, a luxurious American restaurant on Knox Street
• The Mansion Restaurant at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, a historic contemporary American restaurant
• Bob's Steak & Chop House, a classic steakhouse in Dallas' Turtle Creek/Oak Lawn neighborhood
• Roots Southern Table, a Southern restaurant in Farmers Branch
• Nick & Sam's Steakhouse, a Japanese steak and seafood-focused steakhouse in Uptown Dallas
• Town Hearth, a fine dining steakhouse in Dallas' Design District
• Fearing's, an innovative Southwestern restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Dallas in Uptown
• Quarter Acre, globally-inspired restaurant in Dallas' Greenville Avenue neighborhood
• Restaurant Beatrice, a Creole-Cajun restaurant in Dallas' Oak Cliff/Bishop Arts neighborhood
• Tei-An, Japanese omakase restaurant in Dallas' Arts District
• Reata, a quintessential Southwestern restaurant in downtown Fort Worth

Steakhouses were the most represented on the list, with four out of 13 establishments focused on world-class steak dinners and extensive wine programs.

Dallas foodies will recognize longstanding local staples like The Mansion Restaurant at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, which has been mastering the art of New American fine dining for over 40 years. The restaurant's sophisticated design also lends a helping hand for creating the perfect atmosphere for celebrating special occasions, date nights, and more.

"With nods to the building’s 1920s origins, the opulent dining room is all dramatic archways, stained glass windows, and hand-carved accents," OpenTable's editors wrote. "The French-leaning, New American menu is just as decadent — think fancy caviar, Comté gougères, and grilled prime ribeye with foie gras peppercorn sauce."

Pioneering establishments like Restaurant Beatrice, a 2024 nominee for CultureMap's Restaurant of the Year, also rightfully made the list. Beatrice's Cajun fare, its game-changing culinary program, and its brilliant executive chef Michelle Carpenter all make this beloved restaurant stand out above the rest.

"Carpenter cut her teeth in New Orleans, and that influence shines in everything from statement fleur-de-lys wallpaper to elegant dishes like shrimp and grits and vegan gumbo," the editors wrote.
